1. New Renewable Energy Standard for Michigan?

Description:

The Michigan Energy, Michigan Jobs coalition wants to increase the state’s renewable energy standard to 25 percent by 2025.

That would mean that a quarter of all the energy used in Michigan would come from renewable sources like the wind and sun.  The coalition is trying to collect enough signatures to put the issue before voters in November.



2. Neighbors feel pressured by Enbridge's new pipeline plans

Coming up on the next Environment Report...  Enbridge Energy wants to replace an oil pipeline that runs across southern Michigan.  We’ll hear how some people say they’ve felt intimidated by representatives of the pipeline company.



3. Michigan Retailers Import Cherries to Meet Demand

Description:

When you eat cherries this summer there’s a good chance they won’t be from Michigan.  Northern Michigan cherry orchards were devastated by a series of hard freezes.  So, some retailers are getting cherries from overseas.  But others worry it’s too risky... they say foreign countries could gain an edge on Michigan growers.

Description: We'll talk with a spokesperson for the Michigan Department of Environmental Quality about the regulations on fracking for natural gas. He says fracking has been done safely in Michigan for 50 years. But there are important differences between the kind of drilling we've been doing... and a new method that uses much more water... water that can never be used again.

5. Drilling Rights on the Auction Block & Mining Lawsuit

The Michigan Department of Natural Resources will hold an auction to lease state-owned drilling rights for oil and natural gas.  It's the first step a company takes in oil and gas exploration.  We hear about the process from the DNR and we’ll hear from a homeowner who’s concerned about the potential for more drilling.  

And... a private sportsmen's club files a federal lawsuit to stop a new nickel-copper mine in the U.P.
