About: John La Puma MD is the leading physician voice for healthy eating as part of health, and a wellness, ethics and lifestyle expert. Both a board-certified practicing internist and professionally trained chef, he is a New York Times best-selling author twice, on healthy aging and diet. He currently hosts the nationwide PBS Special Eat and Cook Healthy! and is medical director and host of Chef MD on Lifetime TV. He is the first physician to teach a cooking and nutrition course in a U.S. medical school (SUNY-Syracuse), with Dr Michael Roizen of the Cleveland Clinic. Dr. La Puma specializes in weight management in Santa Barbara’s Chef Clinic.

His clinical trial designs and academic work have resulted in authorship or co-authorship of over 50 peer-reviewed scientific papers, 150 other contributions to the medical literature and three medical books, including a CME book.

He performed his residency in internal medicine at West Los Angeles Veterans Administration Medical Center and UCLA, and completed the first postgraduate fellowship in general internal medicine and clinical medical ethics in the US, at the University of Chicago.

Dr. La Puma became a Clinical Associate Professor of Medicine at the University of Chicago, Professor of Nutrition at Kendall College’s School of Culinary Arts, and cook at James Beard-award winning Chef Rick Bayless’ Topolobampo in Chicago. Dr. La Puma graduated with honors from the Cooking and Hospitality Institute of Chicago (now a Le Cordon Bleu school) in Professional Cooking.

Repeatedly named One of America’s Top Physicians by Consumers’ Research Council, Dr. La Puma has been honored with the American Medical Association/National Association of Medical Communicators Award of Excellence. He is based in Santa Barbara, California.

We discuss the latest trends and nonsurgical cosmetic technologies including Smartlipo, stem cell treatments, laser liposuction, technology choices and integrating new surgical techniques into your cosmetic practice.

Dr. Young began performing SmartLipo Laser Body Sculpting soon after it's FDA approval and was the first physician to introduce awake tumescent laser liposuction to the Lehigh Valley. He trains other physicians across the country in awake tumescent liposuction and liposculpture procedures and was the first physician to perform Vaser® Lipo, SlimLipo, Body-Jet®, Stem Cell Enriched Fat Transfer Natural Breast Augmentation, Brazilian Butt Lift, ZERONA, VelaShape, and the Soprano XL Pain-free Laser Hair Reduction procedures in the region.

Dr. Young performs approximately 25-40 procedures per month identifying him as the most experienced awake tumescent liposuction physician in the region. As of February 2011, Dr. Young had performed over 1200 laser liposuction procedures and is a Speaker for the SlimLipo body sculpting laser. He continues to further expand his experience by continuing his training with industry pioneers in the art of body sculpting.

Dr. Young is double board-certified by the American Board of Internal Medicine, is a native of the Lehigh Valley, and has been practicing medicine in the Valley for 20 years. He is a Platinum Provider for Botox, and has extensive experience with Juvéderm, Restylane, Perlane and ArteFill dermal filler procedures. He is also a Premier Provider for Radiesse.

Dr. Mike Woo-Ming is a much in demand internet business consultant and entrepreneur. Once working a full-time income as a Mayo Clinic trained physician, Dr. Mike built a passive income by starting his own internet business while still maintaining a 60 hour work week. His companies have created over 80 information products in the last few years and maintains a seven figure income that started from his bedroom.

An expert in lead generation, he has personally generated over 700,000 leads in 11 different markets. Dr. Mike consults regularly with million dollar companies in the corporate world, while still traveling around the world to sold-out workshops helping small business owners and solo entrepreneurs attain their own financial success.

A graduate in family practice, at the Mayo Clinic in Scottsdale, Arizona, Dr. Mike also hold's a master's degree in public health at the University of Michigan. Dr. Knope is a board-certified internist and sports medicine expert. He completed his premedical studies at Columbia University and graduated with honors in internal medicine from Cornell University Medical College in 1988. He completed his residency training at UCLA, where he was awarded the first Sherman Melinkoff Teacher of the Year Award. He has served as Chief of Medicine, Chairman of the Department of Medicine, and Director of the ICU in the Carondelet system in Tucson, Arizona. He is a pioneer in the field of concierge medicine, opening one of the first concierge practices in America in December 2000. He authored the first book on concierge medicine entitled, Concierge Medicine; A New System to Get the Best Healthcare (Praeger, 2008).

Knope has received local and national media attention for his work as an uncompromising patient advocate and opponent of the HMO industry. He has been covered in the Arizona Daily Star, Moneymagazine and The Wall Street Journal. In his fight against a local HMO, Nobel Peace Prize Laureate and inventor of the cardiac defibrillator, Dr. Bernard Lown, praised Knope as “courageous” and “deeply principled.”

Knope has served as the official internist for the Colorado Rockies baseball team during their spring training in Tucson and has been a member of the editorial board of The American College of Sports Medicine’s Health & Fitness Journal. He is a highly regarded national speaker on the subjects of obesity, fitness and exercise.

Mr. Richards qualified as a Doctor in 1988 and for the last 12 years has specialised in plastic surgery. He has full registration with the General Medical Council No. 3286812 and is a Member of both the British Association of Plastic and Reconsructive Surgeons (BAPRAS) and the British Association of Aesthetic Plastic Surgeons (BAAPS), the leading British professional bodies for plastic surgery and reconstructive surgery. He is an author and has written a best-selling textbook ‘Keynotes on Plastic Surgery’. He is founder of Cosmetic Courses, a company accredited by the Royal College of Physicians, which provides training to medical practitioners entering the aesthetic market and was the lead investigator in recent clinical research into the use of Botulinum Toxin A (Botox) for cosmetic purposes.

In this episode we're discussing cosmetic medicine in the UK with Adrian Richards. It will probably come as something of an eye-opener for physicians in the US to learn that; most cosmetic surgeons in the UK don't really worry too much about informed consent, being sued by a patient is a rarity, filler injections are unregulated, and that physicians are routinely employed by non-physicians. I found the differences to be striking.

We also discuss how Adrian markets his services through social media, videos, and podcasts of his own as we delve into cosmetic surgery across the pond.

Introducing our latest podcast creation, episode 3, in which we start of by discussing using Twitter and social networks for business marketing. Does Twitter work? Where's the value? Who should be using it? We're also discussing how to increase the level of trust that both your staff and patient populations have and how that relates directly to sales and patient involvement.

The interview in this episode is with Dr. Setu Mazumdar of Lotus Wealth Managment. Dr. Mazumdar is an MD who's now changed careers to become a financial and wealth management advisor specifically for physicians who are looking to get their house in order. We discuss how physician training does not equip docs with the knowledge and skills that they need to actually accumulate wealth, and how you can make some changes that give you control over your finances. Dr. Mazumdar details common mistakes that docs make and how they can be avoided or resolved.

Trust an authenticity? In this episode we discuss how cosmetic medical clinics are using (or not using) social networks to market to potential and existing patients and how physicians are loosing patients because of this.

We also have an interview with Dr. Elliot Justin of Swift MD, a telemedicine service that connects physicians with patients. Dr. Justin discusses the state of telemedicine, how and why he started Swift MD, and why the current environment in healthcare is forcing a change in primary care.

In this episode, we kick the first podcast off with a general discussion of how Medical Spa MD functions as a hub for physicians who are looking to gain greater control of their medical practice, business, and lifestyle. 

We move on into some discussion about creating some forums exclusively for physicians and discuss the pros and cons of having protected content.

Next up is our interview with Dr. Greg Bledsoe, founder of the Medical Fusion Conference. Greg discusses where the Medical Fusion Conference started and talks candidly about his desire to provide physicians with the very best information and resources for adding additional career opportunities to their existing practice.

This interview was pretty long so we only included the first part that deals with the Medical Fusion Conference. We'll look to add the rest of the interview where Greg's discussing more of his expedition medicine adventures to another show.
