1. BTS Special #1: Snakes on a Plane download (audio/x-m4a, 7.14Mb) Description: Because Snakes on a Plane didn’t fit into our regular schedule, we figured it warranted a special episode to serve as a warning to those who intend to go see it. The film is not good, it knows it’s not good, but despite all of that, Jared and I admittedly had some fun in the theater. That doesn’t mean that the film isn’t terrible, or that any of the film is excused because it’s so self-consciously bad (well, maybe Jared excused a little), but it counts for something. Episode 9 coming shortly, featuring Lady in the Water. |

2. BTS Episode 8: Brokeback Mountain and Superman Returns download (audio/x-m4a, 31.14Mb) Description: Jared and I are trying some format changes around Behind the Scenes headquarters. Namely, we’re trying to make The Rundown a little more engaging. In our haste to do so, we talked much longer than usual. Pair that with two in-depth reviews and we reached over an hour of content. Well, we’ll try to control ourselves a little more next time. As it stands, we both had a lot of constructive criticism for both films, but we agreed that both were excellent. On Episode 9: Lady in the Water |

3. BTS Episode 7: The Da Vinci Code download (audio/x-m4a, 15.18Mb) Description: One of us has read the book, one of us hasn’t. Both of us agree that the movie is pretty bleh, for lack of a better term. It’s not that it’s particularly bad, but with such an intriguing premise, it’s surprising how bland everyone and everything concerning The Da Vinci Code is. Oh well: for what it is, we agree that The Da Vinci Code does a serviceable job, but there are definite flaws that keep this from being an above-average film. On Episode 8: Brokeback Mountain |

4. BTS Episode 6: American Beauty download (audio/x-m4a, 15.29Mb) Description: Jared and I seem to need a thesaurus for our review of Sam Mendes’s 1999 Oscar-winner American Beauty. As it stands, we try our best to put into words how much we both loved the film, and hopefully we’re fairly successful. We agree that it is indeed a modern-day classic, worthy of its Best Picture status. On Episode 7: The Da Vinci Code |

5. BTS Episode 5: V for Vendetta and Inside Man download (audio/x-m4a, 18.93Mb) Description: V for Vendetta and Inside Man, a couple of films still in theaters, may be of different genres (dystopic cautionary tale and heist film, respectively), but both offer the same sort of entertainment. Jared and I thought both films were smart entertainment and well worth the price of admission. V for Vendetta was our favorite, but both are excellent examples of genre films featuring great acting and good writing. On Episode 6: American Beauty |

6. BTS Episode 4: A History of Violence download (audio/x-m4a, 14.76Mb) Description: One of the better-reviewed films of 2005, A History of Violence was a film that both Jared and I had high hopes for. Perhaps our expectations were unreasonable, but we both agreed that it was an uneven exercise in filmmaking, trying to do more than it ended up pulling off. On next week’s show: Inside Man and V for Vendetta |

7. BTS Episode 3: Being John Malkovich download (audio/x-m4a, 16.08Mb) Description: If nothing else, we can agree that Being John Malkovich is a wholly original work of cinema. On top of that, it has some lofty ideas to present and we both agree that the film does a great job doing what it sets out to do. Jared thought it was a bit eccentric and over-the-top at times, but we both agreed that it was a unique piece of cinema and well worth our two hours. On next week’s show: A History of Violence |

8. BTS Episode 2: The Professional download (audio/x-m4a, 15.54Mb) Description: Following Jared’s advice, we decided to review Luc Besson’s 1994 film The Professional for our second episode. It’s one of Jared’s favorite films and while I didn’t share his enthusiasm, I thought it was a solid crime drama. Also on this episode: The Rundown and two recommendations from us. |

9. BTS Episode 1: The Constant Gardener download (audio/x-m4a, 12.50Mb) Description: For our inaugural podcast, Jared and I discuss Fernando Meirelles’s The Constant Gardener. Also: The Rundown, where Jared I discuss what we’ve seen over the past week, and our recommendations for the week. |
