1. 2008-11-2330 Who Wrote the Fourth Gospel? John 21:24
http://www.bereanbiblechurch.o... download (audio/mpeg, 23.13Mb)

Description: The title of the fourth Gospel in my Bible is: “The Gospel According to John.” So when I read in chapter 21 that the writer of this Gospel was “the disciple whom Jesus loved,” I automatically assumed that the disciple whom Jesus loved was the Apostle John. And so do we all. But was he? Let me say at the beginning here that I am not questioning inspiration. I believe that the Bible is the inspired word of the Living God. What I am questioning is which human author did God use.

2. 2008-11-23 Stephen’s Sacrifice Acts 7:54-60
http://www.bereanbiblechurch.o... download (audio/mpeg, 24.75Mb)

Description: For the past several weeks we have been looking at a great man of God, Stephen.

Stephen is now standing before the Sanhedrin, Israel’s high court. He is on trial accused of speaking blasphemy against Moses and God. This court can have him put to death. Stephen’s defense is quite long as he goes over the history of Israel in order to show that God had given the Law, and they disobeyed. God sent His prophets, and they rejected them. These prophets spoke of the coming Messiah, and they were killed, just as these people were guilty of the blood of Jesus, the Messiah who had come just as the prophets had promised. The “holy Law,” which they claimed to revere and to defend, was not kept throughout Israel’s history, and it was not kept by Stephen’s accusers either. It was not Stephen who was worthy of death, but his audience.

3. 2008-11-16 Stephen’s Sermon, Acts 7:1-53
http://www.bereanbiblechurch.o... download (audio/mpeg, 23.25Mb)

Description: Several weeks ago in our study of Acts 6 we met a man named Stephen.
We learned then that Stephen was a brilliant and spiritual man. Acts 6:5 says he was "full of the Holy Spirit and of faith." Verse 8 says he was "full of grace and power." Verse 10 says his opponents "could not resist the wisdom and Spirit with which he spoke." And even after he was arrested, verse 15 says that "his face was like the face of an angel" as he was accused in the court.

4. 2008-11-09 Stop Being Anxious, Matthew 6:25-34
http://www.bereanbiblechurch.o... download (audio/mpeg, 21.60Mb)

Description: In view of our current economic and political climate I thought it would be appropriate and comforting to look at the words of Jesus about anxiety. In Matthew 6:25-34 Jesus’ emphasis is on the subject of anxiety or worry. Three times in these verses, Christ gives the admonition, "Do not be anxious." Verse 25: "Do not be anxious for your life.” Verse 31: "Do not be anxious, saying, 'What shall we eat?'." Verse 34: "Therefore do not be anxious for tomorrow.” So one thing should ring in your ears when you leave this morning, namely, Jesus does not want me to be anxious, or to worry.
I think that American Christianity needs to grasp these words of Christ. The American economy is in serious trouble. This past Friday an Associated Press article stated, “The nation’s unemployment rate bolted to a 14-year high of 6.5 percent in October as another 240,000 jobs were cut, far worse than economists expected and stark proof the economy is deteriorating at an alarmingly rapid pace.” So far this year, a staggering 1.2 million jobs in the U.S. have disappeared.

5. 2008-10-26 Luther and Depravity Eph. 2:1-5
http://www.bereanbiblechurch.o... download (audio/mpeg, 21.60Mb)

Description: Do you know what this Friday is? Yes, I know it’s Halloween. But what is this Friday the anniversary of?  October 31, 1517 is the date which is recognized as the beginning of the Reformation. This was the day that Martin Luther nailed his 95 Thesis to the castle church door in Wittenberg.

John Robbins writes, “Every October, while the world is imitating and celebrating witches and ghouls and ghosts and magic in good pagan and medieval fashion, Christians remember the Christian Reformation of the sixteenth century when the Gospel of Jesus Christ swept across Europe, shattering a thoroughly corrupt Christendom and granting everlasting life to millions of lost souls.”

6. 2008-10-19 Stephen on Trial, Acts 6:8-15
http://www.bereanbiblechurch.o... download (audio/mpeg, 23.37Mb)

Description: Last week we looked at the first 7 verses of Acts 6, where the Apostles were looking for some men to rid themselves of the administrative burden of “serving tables” which involved making sure the needy Hellenistic widows were provided for. This would free them for the priority of preaching and teaching and praying. They accomplished this by appointing seven men to perform the task, one of whom was a man named Stephen.
Up to this point, our focus in the book of Acts has been upon the Twelve and specifically upon Peter and John. But now there is a change. Stephen now becomes the main subject for the remainder of the 6th Chapter and the entire 7th Chapter.

7. 2008-10-12 Don’t Neglect the Widows, Acts 6:1-7
http://www.bereanbiblechurch.o... download (audio/mpeg, 19.91Mb)

Description: As the apostles faithfully teach and evangelize the church continues to grow:

Now at this time while the disciples were increasing in number, a complaint arose on the part of the Hellenistic Jews against the native Hebrews, because their widows were being overlooked in the daily serving of food.    (Acts 6:1 NASB)

The church's continued numerical growth leads to an overload for the apostles in their administration of the common fund for the poor. As a result, the Grecian Jewish widows are being overlooked in the daily food distribution. This results in murmuring that threatens to destroy the church's unity.

8. 2008-10-05 Singing in the Pain, Acts 5:33-42
http://www.bereanbiblechurch.o... download (audio/mpeg, 19.91Mb)

Description: In our last study of Acts we saw that the apostles had been arrested by the Sanhedrin:

But the high priest rose up, along with all his associates (that is the sect of the Sadducees), and they were filled with jealousy; 18 and they laid hands on the apostles, and put them in a public jail.    (Acts 5:17-18 NASB)

Notice who is leading this charge: It is the high priest of Israel. What was the function of the high priest? What was it that he was supposed to be doing?

9. 2008-09-21 Prison Break, Acts 5:17-32
http://www.bereanbiblechurch.o... download (audio/mpeg, 18.17Mb)

Description: In our study last week we saw that many miraculous things were happening through the apostles, and the people were holding them in high esteem. The growing numbers of those who joined the apostles in trusting in Jesus as the Messiah, along with the preaching and popularity of the apostles, further aggravated by the crowds who gathered to be healed in the name of Jesus, was simply too much for the Sadducean priests to bear. So they had the apostles arrested:

But the high priest rose up, along with all his associates (that is the sect of the Sadducees), and they were filled with jealousy; 18 and they laid hands on the apostles, and put them in a public jail.    (Acts 5:17-18 NASB)

11. 2008-09-07 Slain By The Spirit, Acts 5:1-11
http://www.bereanbiblechurch.o... download (audio/mpeg, 21.97Mb)

Description: Being slai n in the Spirit is a term related to the Cha rismatic movement and Pentecost alism which describes a phenomenon in which the Spirit comes upon you and overcomes you with power, knocking you to the ground or slaying you. Today this has become the common denominator of the Spirits' presence with power and is sought after as proof of receiving the anointing. With such people as Benny Hinn, Rod Parsley, Richard Roberts, Todd Bentley and a host of others who have developed it to be a trademark of their meetings.

12. 2008-08-31 This is Discipleship!, Acts 4:32-37
http://www.bereanbiblechurch.o... download (audio/mpeg, 22.97Mb)

Description: In Hebrew thought there is a huge difference between a student and a disciple. A student wants to know what the teacher knows for whatever reason: a grade, a degree or even out of respect for the teacher. A talmid wants to be like the teacher, that is to become what the teacher is.
The decision to follow a rabbi as a talmid meant total commitment in the first century as it does today. Since a talmid was totally devoted to becoming like the rabbi, he would have spent his entire time listening and observing the teacher to know how to understand the Scripture and how to put it into practice.

13. 2008-08-24 A Prayer for Boldness Acts 4:23-31
http://www.bereanbiblechurch.o... download (audio/mpeg, 21.16Mb)

Description: Prayer is a fundamental discipline of the Christian life, along with Bible study,  fellowship, and witnessing. These are the basic disciplines that a Christian should be involved in to promote spiritual growth.
Prayer is not something we don't understand, I think everybody knows that prayer is talking to God. We know what it is, we just don't do it. Why is it that we, as God's children, spend so little time in prayer with our heavenly Father? Why is there so much prayerlessness in American Christianity? I think we spend so little time in prayer because we don't really believe that prayer actually works. Since we don't believe that it works, we spend our time doing other things.
Why is it that we don't believe that it works?

14. 2008-08-17 Fearless Men of God, Acts 4:13-22
http://www.bereanbiblechurch.o... download (audio/mpeg, 21.16Mb)

Description: Now as they observed the confidence of Peter and John, and understood that they were uneducated and untrained men, they were marveling, and began to recognize them as having been with Jesus.    (Acts 4:13 NASB)

How many of you have been in a court room? How many of you have gone before a judge? It can be very intimidating because the judge has incredible power.  He can fine you, jail you, make your life miserable. So, most sane people are intimidated by the judge and seek to do and say what might not offend the judge. But not Peter, he confronts the court with their sin using their own Scriptures. We fear a judge who can at the most fine us or give us some jail time, but Peter is fearless in the face of what could be physical torture–thirty nine lashes.

15. 2008-08-10 The Corner Stone, Acts 4:1-12
http://www.bereanbiblechurch.o... download (audio/mpeg, 24.07Mb)

Description: We see in the Gospels that Israel’s leaders hated Jesus, they wanted nothing to do with Jesus or with His kingdom.  And as the Gospels close we see that they  succeeded in putting Him to death. They must have felt that was the last they would hear of Jesus. But it wasn’t. First of all; there was the problem of the empty tomb. They knew that Jesus had promised He would rise from the dead (Matthew 27:62-64) and that this would be the "sign" which would prove He was who He claimed to be (Matthew 12:39-42). That had to be troubling to them, where did the body of Jesus go?

16. 2008-08-03 The Restoration Of All Things, Acts 3:20-26
http://www.bereanbiblechurch.o... download (audio/mpeg, 21.98Mb)

Description: We are looking at Peter’s second sermon which takes place in the court of the Gentiles in the Jewi sh Temple. Peter had just healed a lame man who had never walked and now this man was leaping and praising God. Because of this miraculous healing a crowd gathers and Peter begins to preach. Peter tells this crowd that this man was healed in the name of Jesus. Who is the Holy One, the Righteous One, He is the Prince of Life. These are messianic titles. Peter tells this crowd of Jews that they have killed their messiah. They are murders who are about to experience the wrath of God! Then Peter gives them a way out he tells them that what they have done, the have done in ignorance. Opening the door for the city of refuge. Then he tells them that forgiveness is available in Jesus name.

17. 2008-07-27 Preaching Jesus, Acts 3:12-19
http://www.bereanbiblechurch.o... download (audio/mpeg, 22.63Mb)

Description: In Peter’s first sermon on Pentecost he placed his hearers in the awful attitude of the murderers of the Son of God, who was now not only alive again, but seated on the throne of God, with all power in His hands, both on earth and in heaven. The belief of these facts necessarily filled them with the most intense realization of guilt, and the most fearful anticipation of punishment.

Today as we look at Peter’s second sermon we are going to see that Peter again calls his audience murderers.

18. 2008-07-20 The Lame Leap!, Acts 3:1-11
http://www.bereanbiblechurch.o... download (audio/mpeg, 23.79Mb)

Description: Pentecost having taken place, and the infant Church having been shown to be established, Luke now goes on to deal with the way in which the infant Church rapidly expanded. In Luke's summary of the life of the early Church, he has told us:

And everyone kept feeling a sense of awe; and many wonders and signs were taking place through the apostles.    (Acts 2:43 NASB)

Today we are going to see one of the "many wonders and signs" which the apostles did-the story of the lame man who was healed at the Beautiful Gate of the temple. Evidently Luke has selected this miracle in order that it might teach us something very significant.

http://www.bereanbiblechurch.o... download (audio/mpeg, 23.79Mb)

Description: The infant church, the new Israel, now met regularly together and we learn here of their activities in summarized form. The word "devoting" is the Greek word proskartereo. It  first meant: "to be strong towards, to endure in, persevere in." It came to mean: "adhere to, persist in, to continue to do something with intense effort," with the possible implication of: "despite difficulty." It points to constancy, purpose, or resolve. Out of ten uses of the verb and one use of the noun in the New Testament, six are connected with prayer and two with the ministry of the Word.

Description: 1 Corinthians 13 is a well know chapter in the Bible; it is the love chapter. Love is a very familiar word to us. We use it freely. Someone might say, "I love hot dogs, or I love my dog or my truck, or I love my wife, or I love God." Do we love our dog in the same way as we love our wife? Description: We are studying Peter’s sermon, given to a group of Israelites in the Jewi sh temple on the day of Pentecost. Why were these Israelites at the Temple? They had come to the temple to worship God as prescribed in their Law. Their presence in the Holy City on the three major festivals was in obedience to the Torah as God commanded Moses:

Three times in a year all your males shall appear before the LORD your God in the place which He chooses, at the Feast of Unleavened Bread and at the Feast of Weeks and at the Feast of Booths, and they shall not appear before the LORD empty-handed.    (Deuteronomy 16:16 NASB)

http://www.bereanbiblechurch.o... download (audio/mpeg, 21.79Mb)

Description: Christian theologians view Pentecost as the birth of the Church. There is not much argument here. So think this through with me; The first sermon to be preached in the infant church was delivered by Peter, a Jew; to a large crowd of Israelites in the Jewish Temple in the city of Jerusalem on the Jewish feast day of Pentecost and the sermon was about a Jewish Messiah. In this sermon twelve out of the twenty-three verses are direct quotations from the Jewish Scriptures. Peter’s message is rooted in First Testament prophecy, prophecies given to Israel. Peter speaks of God’s coming judgment on Israel, and calls on the "men of Israel" to repent. The context of our text is clearly "Jewish".

http://www.bereanbiblechurch.o... download (audio/mpeg, 22.60Mb)

Description: In our study of the book of Acts we are looking at the day of Pentecost. Can you explain the significance of the day of Pentecost? It was a Jewish Feast day. It was on this day about 1600 years previously that a very notable historical event happened; that was the giving of the Ten Commandments. On this day the Old Covenant law was given to the nation of Israel. And on this very same day of the Lunar calendar the promise of Joel is being fulfilled, the Spirit is being poured out, the New Covenant just like the old arrived on Pentecost.

The book of Philemon is a short intimate letter carefully crafted and sensitively worded. 26. 2008-05-25 The Church's First Sermon, Acts 2:14-21
http://www.bereanbiblechurch.o... download (audio/mpeg, 21.79Mb)

Description: As the Spirit fell on the 120 disciples in the temple with the sound of wind and tongues of fire it got the attention of those worshipers in the temple:

And they all continued in amazement and great perplexity, saying to one another, "What does this mean?" 13 But others were mocking and saying, "They are full of sweet wine."   (Acts 2:12-13 NASB)

Because of the audiovisual effect of Pentecost, a crowd gathered around, giving Peter the opportunity to preach. In that crowd were two kinds of people. One kind ultimately thought everything that was happening was ridiculous. They rationalized it away by saying, "They are drunk." Today people still respond to the Gospel this way, "You are wasting your life believing a myth. I’m glad it makes you happy, but . . . (what an idiot)." There will always be this response from some, there will always be mockers.
There were others there who were asking, "What does this mean? What is going on?" So Peter stands up and addresses both groups

27. 2008-05-18 Walking By Faith, Heb. 11:1
http://www.bereanbiblechurch.o... download (audio/mpeg, 14.91Mb)

Description: This is probably the most famous chapter in the book of Hebrews, it has been called "The Great Faith Chapter". It is evident that the 11th chapter is but a continuation of the teaching and instruction developed in the closing section of chapter 10.

Hebrews 10:38 (NKJV) Now the just shall live by faith; But if anyone draws back, My soul has no pleasure in him."

The "just" is referring to believers; we as Christians are to live by faith. This 11th chapter is not an explanation of how to be saved. It is rather a call to perseverance in faith, whatever the odds. In this chapter we have an extended list of examples of Old Testament men and women who lived by faith in the midst of great persecution and tribulation.

Hebrews 11:1 (NKJV) Now faith is the substance of things hoped for, the evidence of things not seen.

http://www.bereanbiblechurch.o... download (audio/mpeg, 23.81Mb)

Description: We are looking at Acts 2 and the subject of . On the day of Pentecost the promised Spirit arrived, it was an audiovisual experience.

And suddenly there came from heaven a noise like a violent, rushing wind, and it filled the whole house where they were sitting. 3 and there appeared to them tongues as of fire distributing themselves, and they rested on each one of them.    (Acts 2:2-3 NASB)

There was a noise like a violent, rushing wind. No wind, just noise. This would get their attention. The Greek word used here for wind is most often translated "breath of life".
Luke uses this particular word here to stress the life-giving breath of God, as symbolized by the sound of wind.

Notice also that there are tongues of fire.

Description: In our last study we looked at the subject of Pentecost. Could you explain Pentecost and its significance to someone? When the Holy Spirit came upon the apostles and the other believers on the Day of Pentecost, those who heard them speaking in tongues were perplexed and asked,

And they all continued in amazement and great perplexity, saying to one another, "What does this mean?"    (Acts 2:12 NASB)

30. 2008-04-27 Pentecost, Acts 2:1-4
http://www.bereanbiblechurch.o... download (audio/mpeg, 21.22Mb)

Description: As we begin our study of Acts 2, one thing that I want you to keep in mind is that the context is clearly "Jewish." The events take place in Jerusalem. The apostles are all Jews. Peter’s message is rooted in First Testament prophecy, prophecies given to Israel. Peter speaks of God’s coming judgment on Israel and calls on the "men of Israel" to repent, offering not only forgiveness of sins and the gift of the Holy Spirit, but the kingdom as well.

And when the day of Pentecost had come, they were all together in one place.    (Acts 2:1 NASB)

http://www.bereanbiblechurch.o... download (audio/mpeg, 21.13Mb)

Description: In verses 12-26 we are going to study the only inspired account of that ten-day period of time between Jesus’ ascension and the coming of the Holy Spirit at Pentecost, some fifty days after the time of Jesus’ resurrection. Jesus was now physically absent, and yet the Holy Spirit has not yet descended. It was during this period of time that Jesus had told His disciples to wait:

And gathering them together, He commanded them not to leave Jerusalem, but to wait for what the Father had promised, "Which," He said, "you heard of from Me;    (Acts 1:4 NASB)

So in obedience to Christ the Apostles go to Jerusalem:

Then they returned to Jerusalem from the mount called Olivet, which is near Jerusalem, a Sabbath day's journey away.    (Acts 1:12 NASB)

Description: In our study thus far in the book of Acts we have seen the resurrected Christ  teaching His disciples about the kingdom of God and opening their minds to understand these truths. After spending forty days  teaching them, Jesus commissions them to proclaim the Gospel to Jerusalem, Judea, Samaria and to the remotest part of the earth, and then He leaves them and ascends to the Father:

And after He had said these things, He was lifted up while they were looking on, and a cloud received Him out of their sight.    (Acts 1:9 NASB)

Description: The book of Acts is all about the redemption, restoration, or resurrection of Israel. As the Gospels end Jesus has been rejected by the Jewish leadership, they have put Him to death. They killed their Messiah, so now what happens to all the promises made to Israel? Does God stop with Israel and turn to the church?

Description: Last week in our study "Und erstanding Israel" we sought to understand what the Scriptures meant by the term Israel. There is a great disagreement within Christendom< /a> as to who "Israel" is. Does this refer to the nation Israel or to the Church of Jesus Christ? How you answer this question is very important. If you are going to understand the Bible and its promises, you must understand who "Israel" is.

35. 2008-03-16 Understanding Israel, Acts 1:6
http://www.bereanbiblechurch.o... download (audio/mpeg, 24.59Mb)

Description: We began our study of the book of Acts last week and I said that the theme of Acts is, "The Resurrection of Israel."  This doesn’t really make sense unless you understand  what I mean by "resurrection" and what I mean by "Israel."  So this morning I want to explain how I am using these two words.
A principle of hermeneutics is: Determine carefully the meaning of words. Whatever else the Bible is, it is a book which communicates information verbally. That means that it is filled with words. Thoughts are expressed through relationships of those words. Each individual word contributes something to the whole of the content expressed. The better understanding we have of the individual words used in biblical statements the better we will be able to understand the total message of Scripture. Accurate communication and clear understanding are difficult when words are used imprecisely or ambiguously. Misuses of words and misunderstanding go hand in hand.

Description: We begin a new study today in the book of Acts. Imagine what it would be like if the Book of Acts were missing. You would pick up your Bible and see the ministry of Jesus ending in the Gospels; next you would read about a guy named Paul writing to followers of Jesus in Rome. Who was Paul? How did the gospel get from Jerusalem to Rome? What happened to the kingdom of God that Jesus said was at hand? The Book of Acts answers these questions.

37. 2008-03-02 Understanding the Bible, Proverbs 2:1-5
http://www.bereanbiblechurch.o... download (audio/mpeg, 22.69Mb)

Description: Next week we will be starting the book of Act s. But before we do I want to talk this morning about "Understanding the Bible." I’m sure that you are aware that that is not a simple thing to do. All you have to do is look around at all the different churches with all their different beliefs, which they say come from the Bible, and it is easy to see that understanding the Bible is not that easy.
There are good and godly men who disagree about every doctrine the Bible teaches. Some read the Bible and end up Arminians< /a> and others read the same Bible and are Calvinists. Some study Scripture and are Charismatic s others study the same Scripture and are not charismatic. When it comes to the subject of eschatology, the end times, we have dispen sationalists some of whom are pre-trib, mid-trib, or post trib. We also have premill enialists, post millinialists and amillenia lists. Then we have partia l-preterists and preterists . Wow! They all read the same Bible and yet they see things so differently. This should tell us that understanding the Bible is not a simple task.

Description: According to the surveys of George Gallup, the number one need people have is "the need to believe that life is meaningful and has a purpose." People want their lives to count. Someone said, "The great purpose of life is to spend it on something that will outlast it." In attempting to recruit John Sculley, the 38-year-old President of Pepsi-Cola, Steve Jobs, founder of Apple Computer, issued a tremendous challenge to Sculley. Description: This morning we are going to look at one of the most important passages on the Christian life in the New Testament. It answers a question all of us have asked at one time or another: Why is it such a struggle for me to live the Christian life? We’ve all wondered about that, haven’t we?
You may have expressed it this way: "I thought by now I wouldn’t struggle so much with anger. Why is it taking me so long to grow in the Christian life?"  Or, "I still get tempted by pornography. Why is it taking me so long to grow?" Or, "I go to church every Sunday, but I still have so many doubts. Why is it taking me so long to grow?" Or,  "I thought I’d be a better person by now, but I’ve got so many bad habits. Why is it taking me so long to grow?" Or, "I’m a bitter person even though I cover it up most of the time. Why is it taking me so long to grow?"

Description: I want to talk to you today about security. Not financial security but eternal security. Can you imagine the emotional state of a child who does not know from day to day whether or not he is a member of the family? Today, since he was a good boy, he is considered a member. But tomorrow, if he misbehaves, he may no longer be a member. Today he is loved by his father. Tomorrow he may not be. This child would be a neurotic mess! You are a part of your family, regardless of your behavior. So it is in the family of God, too. If you belong to Christ, you are part of the family, and can enjoy the emotional security our Heavenly Father wants us to experience.

Do you like that message? Why not? What could possible be wrong with the message that God wants you, all of you, to be healthy, wealthy, pain free and to prosper in whatever you do?

43. 2008-01-20 A Questionable Ending, Mark 16:9-20
http://www.bereanbiblechurch.o... download (audio/mpeg, 24.47Mb)

Description: We come this morning to our final study in the book of Mark. We have been following the last three and a half years of Jesus’ life through this book. We saw Him call His disciples and begin His ministry. We have seen Him confront the religious leaders of Israel, cast out demons, raise the dead, heal the sick, feed the multitudes. We have heard Him teach about the destruction of the Jewish temple and the end of the age. We have seen His trials before Israel’s leaders and before Rome, we have seen Him whipped and crucified, and buried. And in our last study we saw His resurrection. As the women come to the tomb they found it empty, Jesus was gone and an angle tells them that He is risen:

And he said to them, "Do not be amazed; you are looking for Jesus the   Nazarene, who has been crucified. He has risen; He is not here; behold,  here is the place where they laid Him. (Mark 16:6 NASB)

Description: Truth Matters! That is the name of our radio broadcast, which, by the way, is now being broadcast live on the Internet at 10:00AM Monday thru Friday at The Word In Praise Radio Station. We named the radio broadcast that, because it is a strong conviction of ours-truth really does matter. And no more so than when it comes to God. It is imperative that what we believe about God is true. What we believe about God-theology proper-affects how we live. Theology is very practical, it touches our lives every day; worry, anxiety, fear, and depression can all be the result of faulty theology. A proper view of God is what strengthens us in the midst of extremely difficult circumstances.

45. 2008-01-06 He Has Risen!, Mark 16:1-8
http://www.bereanbiblechurch.o... download (audio/mpeg, 20.19Mb)

Description: We ended our last study in Mark with Jesus dead and buried. We looked at His excruciating death upon the cross, "a death that was substitutional". He died for His elect. We also looked at His burial. The significance of the burial is that it served as a certificate of death. The burial signified a public notice that Jesus Christ of Nazareth was dead. This is where we ended in our study, Jesus is now dead, in the tomb. Think of how His disciples must have felt. Think of their despair and hopelessness.
The sad thing here is that their despair and hopelessness was a product of their unbelief. These men and women were all familiar with the Scriptures, and the Scriptures clearly taught that Christ would rise from the dead. We saw in our last study that Christ’s death and burial were both predicted in the Feasts of the Lord. These feasts also predicted His resurrection. These seven feasts represent and typify the sequence, timing, and significance of the major events of the Lord’s redemptive career.
