6. Better Process Podcast: Industry Report Drake Patten The Steel Yard
http://www.podcasternews.com/b... download (audio/mpeg, 7.26Mb)

Description: The Steel Yard acts as a catalyst in the creative revitalization of the blighted Industrial Valley of Providence, RI. We work with area residents, businesses, and community groups in fostering the industrial arts and incubating small businesses, we seek to cultivate an environment of experimentation and a community strengthened by creative networks. As part of meeting this mission, the WVCB provides arts education, training, and other job force development resources in industrial and fine arts at its Steel Yard facility.

Located on the national historic register property that formerly housed Providence Steel and Iron, the Steel Yard's 9,000 square foot industrial shop features a ceramics cooperative, blacksmithing and welding shop, jewelry studio and glass fusing and slumping area as well as a full-equipped fabrication studio and extensive outdoor work and exhibition space. Since our incorporation in 2002, we have offered free industrial arts classes to low-income area students aged 13-18 and tuition-subsidized industrial arts community courses. Our Urban Furniture Department produces one-of-a-kind local-artist-produced street amenities for neighborhoods and communities across Rhode Island.

The Steel Yard also provides independent artists and trades people with access to workspace and specialized equipment through its Open Studios, the Ceramic Cooperative and low-cost studio rental opportunities. We foster micro-enterprise and small business incubation by providing entrepreneurs with the space and material resources needed to develop new products or commissions. We maintain an active jobs board that provides opportunities for private metalworkers to take on commissions that fall outside the scope of the Steel Yard’s Urban Furniture Program. Finally, the Steel Yard provides physical incubator space to a select number of paying and non-paying tenants including, among others, an architects’ collaborative focusing on green design, the non-profit Woonasquatucket River Watershed Council and volunteer-run Recycle a Bike.

11. HeadlinerNews Roundup: News Roundup -- Dancing with Fannie and Freddie
http://www.podcasternews.com/b... download (audio/mpeg, 8.84Mb)

Description:

This past week, while there were rumors of troubles with mortgage giants Fannie Mae and Freddie Mac, the Treasury Department and the Federal Reserve issued an extened line of credit to the two foundations of the U.S. mortgage system.  The federal government also issued announcements about proposed lending restrictions and rules to help curb future subprime lending practices.

Some experts also point to indicators that the U.S. government is not likely to make any more major bailouts of Wall Street financial companies.  I'd still like to see what is being done to bailout the thousands of U.S. borrowers who are facing the loss of their homes due to their own poor decisions.

Either way, this a good topic for this week's roundup!

http://www.podcasternews.com/e... download (audio/mpeg, 13.14Mb)

Description:

Authenticity is a word that is used a lot in marketing these days, but what do we really mean by "being authentic". Today I talk with Chris Rosica who has interviewed many successful entrepreneurs on this area for his new book called The Authentic Brand. We discuss

In an age of celebrity and pop culture do consumers really want authenticity?

The importance of speaking to your customers as real people

How an authentic brand is not a set of values but a passion for a larger societal passion

The power in the naming of your company

How authenticity is developed through the values of the leaders rather than as a marketing concept

How companies can use geo-branding

The importance of the search for perfection for their brands

How strategising your life works hand in hand with strategising your business

How leadership styles are different across entrepreneurs

How the authentic entrepreneurs are consumers first and leaders second

Does an authentic brand match consumers values to the service rather than brand values to the consumers?
