1. SCUBA's SUPPLYING US WITH SOME MORE NICENESSSSSSS:::::::::::
http://www.grimetime.de/index.... download (, 0.00Mb)

Description:

im posting this from the deep dark depths of a designer hotel in L.A. (shame on me!!) ... big ups paul for putting together a fat line-up for the second edition of SUB:STANCE___

SUB:STANCE

Berghain, Ostbahnhof, Berlin, Germany

03 October 2008

Midnight – 8am

The first SUB:STANCE party was an incredible success. People travelled from as far away as Portugal and the UK to take part in an evening of amazing atmosphere and musical experimentation. On October 3rd, a second wave of dubstep pioneers descends on Berlin. The premise is the same: UK bass colliding with the crushing sound and unique post-industrial environment of Berghain.

Information on the DJs:

Loefah

Along with the Digital Mystikz, Loefah is responsible for the seminal dubstep night DMZ, which has set the dubstep standard for the past three years. His recorded contributions are considered key moments in the evolution of the sound, with seminal releases on the DMZ label, and others including Rephlex, Hotflush and Ninja Tune. The signature Loefah style of hip-hop influenced beats and mind-crushing bass have taken him across the globe, from Australia and America across Europe in 2008. One of the true stalwarts of the dubstep sound, Loefah is a genuine bass innovator.

Skull Disco Sound System

Skull Disco was formed in 2004 by Shackleton and Appleblim, and their vision of shimmering percussion, heaving bass and abstract beats has captured the imagination of people from across the musical spectrum. The ten releases on the Skull Disco label have transcended boundaries of genre, with ground-breaking tracks from Shackleton, Appleblim, and other collaborators including Ricardo Villalobos, Peverelist, and T++.

At SUB:STANCE the Skull Disco sound will be represented by Appleblim and Peverelist.

Jamie Vex’d

Vex’d were some of the most important early innovators of dubstep. With early 12” releases making a huge impression on the embryonic scene, the 2005 LP Degenerate (Planet Mu) established their credentials as some of the most talented and sonically ambitious producers in electronic music. While the follow up to that album is still in the works, one half of the duo, Jamie has more recently been writing alone and very occasionally setting into the DJ world, where his mixes of some the freshest sounds from the UK with the distorted Vex’d snarl have destroyed dancefloors across the globe. SUB:STANCE is his first major solo set in Berlin.

Scuba

Scuba is the production and DJ alias of Paul Rose, owner of Hotflush, one of the original dubstep labels which released some of the most important tracks of the genre’s formative period and continues to be a source of constant originality to date. A London exile in Berlin, his 2008 debut album A Mutual Antipathy blurred the lines between dubstep, electronica and techno and the upcoming 12” series featuring remixes of tracks from the album by artists including Martyn, Marcel Dettmann and Surgeon promise to take the concept even further. When not disrespecting accepted generic norms, he juggles a hectic DJ schedule across Europe and beyond, with label, production and SUB:STANCE promoting duties.

2562

Dave Huismans takes his name from his home district code ‘2562’ in The Hague but takes his musical influences come from further afield – Detroit, Kingston, Croydon, Berlin. Huismans’ previous incarnations have included the dubbed out broken-beat of Dogdaze on Dutch imprint Flying High and more recently as A Made Up Sound – making serious moves in house on Soulphiction/Jackmate’s Philpot Records and forward-looking techno on Shed’s Hardwax-affiliated Subsolo imprint. Following huge interest in the first 2562 releases, his 2008 album Aerial (Tectonic) has made a huge impression on the dubstep scene, exposing elements of 2-step garage with dubbed out sensibilities and incredible atmosphere.

DJ Pete

Also known as Peter Kuschnereit, DJ Pete goes under the name Substance, as well as performing with fellow DJ Rene as Scion. He is a man with a somewhat understated, yet deeply resonating influence on the electronic scene within Berlin and in turn modern dance electronic music across the globe. Most widely know for joining forces with sometime collaborator Rene Lowe (a.k.a. Vainqueur) to form Scion, together they provided the landmark releases for Chain Reaction and were later called upon by Basic Channel to represent the duo’s many excursions into dubbed-out techno in the live arena; a calling which in turn resulted in their destroying dancefloors across the globe and also 2002’s awesome ‘Scion Arrange & Process Basic Channel’ CD. Pete has also released a string of equally as compelling, solo recordings under the pseudonym Substance.

DJ Pete will be playing a spaced out dub selection at SUB:STANCE.

2. SUB:STANCE @ BERGHAIN 11-07-08
http://www.grimetime.de/index.... download (, 0.00Mb)

Description:

Finally we are starting to profit from the mini exodus of Dubstep producers from LDN to BLN (eg. Vex’D, Scuba and Shackleton) ___
Paul Rose aka Scuba is initiating a night called SUB:STANCE which will see the UK bass driven sound penetrate the 18 m walls of Berghain (usually the shirts-off-techno-love-catherdral floor)..............

i saw Scuba play at the Freak Camp tent at Fusion Festival last week…........... his set was ultra tight. His multifaceted sound as well as that of Tes la Roc and Shackleton who also played at Fusion went down with a bang…........ shroomed out barefoot new-age hippies dancing side-by-side with crusty bass heads… bass-driven unity!!! ... it was great. big ups to fusion for giving UK Bass a platform at what really is a truly unique festival of alternative culture.

SUB:STANCE

Berghain, Ostbahnhof, Berlin, Germany

11 July 2008

Midnight – 8am

SUB:STANCE is the collision of two worlds – the vitality of UK bass music intertwined with Berlin with all it’s clubbing exhilaration and cutting edge soundscapes. The most extensive array of dubstep innovators ever seen in Germany is hosted this summer at Berlin’s most infamous venue. Berghain has never before been open on Friday night (the Panorama Bar will also be open), and its colossal Funktion 1 system, due to be expanded even further before the night, has never been exposed to the extreme bass weight of the world’s most exciting sound. July 11 is the date; make sure you are in attendance.

Mala

Mala is one half of Digital Mystikz, true pioneers of dubstep who have pushed the sound of sub bass into genuinely uncharted territory. Responsible for many of the records that shaped dubstep music on it’s route to global appreciation, Mala is also the man behind the legendary label, DMZ
and London’s largest and most infamous dubstep night of the same name. SUB:STANCE will be Mala’s first appearance in Berlin since 2006.

Shackleton

Shackleton and his label, Skull Disco, stand to the left of dubstep. Instead of following the inexorable rise of the genre, Shackleton has created a path all of his own, making waves far and wide with support for his music coming from djs as diverse as Kode 9, Ricardo Villalobos, and Radio Slave. Mixmag included Skull Disco and Shackleton in their Best Act of 2007 and his ‘Soundboy’s Suicide Note’ mix was made the official mix of the year on Mary Anne Hobbes’ show
on BBC Radio 1.

Appleblim

The other half of Skull Disco, Appleblim has carved a niche of his own over the past two years, emerging as an innovative and original DJ and producing some of most arresting tracks to hit record shops. At the forefront of the submerged sound of Bristol dubstep, his recent double A-side collaboration with Peverelist on Skull Disco has been one of the hits of 2008. He recently released the 6th installement of Tempa Records’ Dubstep Allstars mix series.

Distance

Part of the small nucleus of South London based dubstep innovators, Distance has been a name on everyone’s lips since day one. Fostering a unqiue sound, Distance as producer, DJ and label owner (releases on his Chestplate label have been in hot demand since it’s launch in 2007), has
been pushing things in a direction all of his own. A stalwart of the all the biggest dubstep nights:
DMZ, FWD and Exodus and with DJ bookings notched up around the world, he is very much at the forefront of the scene.

Scuba

Scuba is the production and DJ alias of Paul Rose, owner of Hotflush, one of the original dubstep labels which released some of the most important tracks of the genre’s formative period and continues to be a source of constant originality to date. Originally from London, Scuba moved to Berlin in 2007, which, according to some, influenced his acclaimed debut album, A Mutual Antipathy. The stylistic synthesis of the album, with influences ranging from early electronica to
dub techno while keeping in the dubstep framework, cemented his position as one of the most forward-thinking dubstep producers. His DJ schedule has taken him to Australia, New Zealand, the USA and across Europe in recent months.

T++

Torsten Pröfrock started to release techno records as Various Artist, Erosion or Resilent on Berlin’s well known Chain Reaction label in the mid 1990s. The following Dynamo project focused on a special take of breakbeat techno, which continued to build his reputation as a producer with
rare vision. Sometime after 2000 Pröfrock officially joined the project of his friend Robert Henke and played various shows as part of Monolake. In the last three years he has turned to a new project, releasing experimental tracks under the T++ name which have resonated across various genres, but have found the most clear relevance in the dubstep-affiliated scene of the UK.

Description:

first of all there’S the new track from the legendary THE BUG featuring the legendary WARRIOR QUEEN…. check out this beautiful video for POISON DART which is out on the legendary Ninja Tunes …... there is a reason that i have used legendary three times in thé last long ass sentance!!

another tip would be the Jah War track the bug did with Roll Deep’S Flowdan recently…. also a massive tune…..

BUT MY REALLY REALLY ULTRA SPECIAL TIP would be KING MIDAS SOUND, its a side project from his royal highness THE BUG and vocalist ROGER ROBINSON——-
this really is the perfect soundtrack for the endless berlin winter….... i promise you won’t be dissapointed. happened to meet roger in london recently and we ended up having a drunken jamaican food orgy…..actually didnt realise it was him singing on these tunes until a couple of days ago. uniquely deep vocals and beats…..big ups.

  • ninja tunes shop :: buy the tune or the remixes including Stereotyp (BIG UP THE VIENNA MASSIVE), Skream, South Rakkas Crew
  • KING MIDAS SOUND on myspace :: the bug and roger robinson ---- COOL OUT and LOST are my favourites
  • THE BUG on´myspace :: THE BUG --- pioneered with his album Pressure in 2004...on a level with the stereotyp vs. alhaca whiich came our around the same timee
  • WARRIOR QUEEN on myspace :: if you dont know her stuff with THE BUG , or SUNSHIP then you might know her tune of the SKREAM album. saw her live in 2004..... this lady kicks ass.

12. FREAK CAMP FOREVER!!!
http://www.grimetime.de/index.... download (audio/mpeg, 38.20Mb)

Description:

we ought to be mighty thankful to those boys in the Freak Camp coz they seem to be amongst the few people in BLN who keep the dubstep vibe burning…..
the magazines write about dubstep (eg. groove and de-bug who always mention the ricardo villalobos rmx of shackleton on skull disco) but none of the big clubs really seem to be booking even the likes of big names like Kode 9, Skream etc. anyways it doesnt seem to happen all that often….
BUT the freak camp boys allow us to take in those dark meditation vibes at the nights they put on regularly _
SO BIG UPS TO THE FREAK CAMP .......

anywayzzz…...
here’s what they got coming up in the next months….. dont forget to bring your freundinnen!!

Hi Freaks & Friends!

Club (Acud). Auf die Plattenteller kommen neben Dubstep
auch 2step, Garage und Artverwandtes. Was der Spass an Eintritt kostet
ist uns leider im Augenblick noch nicht bekannt – teuer wird es aber auf
keinen Fall werden! ;)

For all those who want to finish their weekend in fine style, we have a
little suggestion: Freak Camp’s very own 2krazy, Danny Bwoy & Robotic
will be playing at Fire! Club on Sunday night (starting at 10 pm).
Expect a selection of up-front dubstep mixed with some classic 2step and
Garage tunes. We don’t know yet how much will be charged at the door,
but you can be sure it won’t be a lot. ;)

Have a nice weekend (where ever you might be),

FOR YOUR LISTENING PLEASURE is this Kode 9 set which he played at the Sonar Festival last summer.
i can listen to this set over and over again….. perfect against the berlin winter depression, the healing powers of Kode 9!

ALSO FOR YOUR LISTENING PLEASURE is Kode 9 and Flying Lotus on Rinse FM last week, they also play some of the deepest newest shit from the likes of rustie, zombie, ramadanman etc…. makes me all sentimental about my uk roots!! pretty funny coz Flying Lotus is the guest and he turns up really late (i can relate to that man!) and Kode 9 kind of blags his way through with shoutouts to his old wino mate….sweet!!
ENJOY!!!
