1. Friday Night Blues and Beer #166 http://feedproxy.google.com/~r... download (audio/mpeg, 35.27Mb) Description: The Beer: Say hello to an IPA from Marston's somewhere in the United Queendom. I had read somewhere that the particular beer was a revival of a nineteenth century English IPA and so we are with a history project having a beer like they did way back then except mine is icy cold. She pours an orangy field of gold with a mild tan head which slinks down to cover that glass with some decent retention. Smells hoppy and spicy with a slight metallic edge to it. Whenever I smell metal in beer my stomach has over time learned to contract and stiffen and I get ready to spew but it is not the case here. Going down the flavour is a wonderful balance of hops and malts with a lemony zing and mild fruitiness. She is awesomely crisp and clean and amazingly refreshing like most beer I've gotten to know. Did I mention all the incredible bubbles? Contains 5.7% alcohol. Two bastardly thumbs up but as always get a second opinion. ![]() The Blues: Beating back the day and cleaning off the plate for a wonderful well earned weekend off - Let's get it on: The Playlist: Etta James (I Just Want To Make Love To You), DownChild Blues Band (It's Been So Long), Gail 'Mojo' Muldrow (Dope Smoking Blues), Delbert Mcclinton (I'm Dying As Fast As I Can), Seth Walker (Gone Before I Knew It), Jimi ''Prime Time'' Smith (When You're Doin' Alright), Diunna Greenleaf & Blue Mercy (Resolutions), Blackburn (Hush), Mike Morgan & The Crawl (Movin' It On), Albert Cummings (Hoochie Coochie), Calvin Owens And His Blues Orchestra (Mr. Lucky), Big Jay McNeely (Country Boy), Chicago Blues Reunion (GM Boogie), Pat Boyack & The Prowlers (The Way You Do), Tutu Jones (Too Blues To Be True), Rufus Huff (Its All Right) and Blues Caravan (Bring Your Loving Home). 2. Friday Night Blues and Beer #165 http://feedproxy.google.com/~r... download (audio/mpeg, 36.40Mb) Description: The Beer: Just in time for summer I get my dirty mitts on a bottle that is apparently hard to find. Say hello to the light lime lager from Big Rock in Calgary, Alberta. She pours a clear straw with a minimal head that dissipates quickly to wherever they go. The aroma is fragrant and pleasing and the lime comes into the nose and wisps away like a summer wind. Going down she is pretty sweet and smooth and cold and she begs for another taste. This is perfect. In the high 20's, a couple of these is all you need to get that lawn mowed on time. Around $25 for a dozen and contains 4% alcohol - two thumbs up! ![]() The Blues: The first show of summer and we are continuing on with the random play-do-whatever-I-want deal and we're laying on the blues power tonight. 3. Friday Night Blues and Beer #164 http://feedproxy.google.com/~r... download (audio/mpeg, 32.64Mb) Description: The Beer: After a drinkable first attempt at Chinese beer, it's now time for round 2. This specimen is Yanjing Beer from Beijing, complete with Beijing 2008 logos on the back of the can. As with the first one, there was little gas left in the can, and the bit of lace that initially formed blew away in a heartbeat. The nose was much like the first, with rice and malts, but there was something behind it. Something burnt. The taste of rice greeted me as the initial flavour, but the back end of this drink was like the back end of a skunk. I managed to finish it, trooper that I am. At 3.6%, and $0.20 for a 330mL can, it would fit the bill in a pinch, but it'd have to be one hot Christmas morning. One more test to go.... As always get a second opinion. ![]() Hats off to Jason for defiling himself for our pleasure yet once again! The Blues: This week was heading towards being marked as crap on my calendar but it turned around in the end. Time for the fast and furious and sweaty down home - Let's get it on: The Playlist: Rita Chiarelli (Love You Too Much), Los Lonely Boys (Real Emotions), Don McMinn (Loving Instructor), Gogo Blues (Give Me Your Love), Janiva Magness (Bitter Pill), James Armstrong (Slender Man Blues), Bobby Mack (Pourin Rain), Teresa James (She's Got The Bug), Bob Gaddy (The Girl Who Promises), Willie Dixon (Bring It On Home), Jimmy Copley (Strange Brew), Blind Mississippi Morris (Bad To Worse), Kjell Gustavsson And The Rythm And Blues Orchestra (You Drive Me Crazy), Hill Country Revue (Let Me Love You), Big Mike & The Booty Papas (Look At That Booty), Bryan Lee (Noize With The Boyz) and Roomful Of Blues (Turn It On! 4. Friday Night Blues and Beer #163 http://feedproxy.google.com/~r... download (audio/mpeg, 32.39Mb) Description: The Beer: Say hello to Samuel Smith's Tadcaster bitter from somewhere in the United Kingdom. She pours a light orange-amber with a dirty white head that hangs out forever at a 1/4" thickness. Smells of lightly toasted malts with a crisp hop bitterness and just a touch of sweet. Going down she is a wonderful mix of citrus and florals that fades to a pleasant malty drone. I don't get the bitter label at all.. Contains 3.80% alcohol and ran me around $4.50 for the bottle. Two thumbs up ladies and gents but as always get a second opinion. ![]() Some guy named Larry couldn't go on another day without the scale in the picture. Welcome back scale. The Blues: I decided to stray from the usual format and go for a free for all random format. I had a great time making it up on the fly and I hope you enjoy listening and if you don't I hate you because you just made me cry and I hope you die and all that good stuff. Mojo baby, mojo - Let's get it on: The Playlist: Joe Beard (The Bitter Seed), Son Seals (Don't Pick Me For Your Fool), Robin Trower (Next In Line), Jim Suhler & Monkey Beat (Voodoo Light), Roscoe Shelton (He's Cool, She's Hot), Too Slim and the Taildraggers (Crawlin' Kingsnake), Albert King & John Lee Hooker (Crawlin' Kingsnake), Angela Strehli (Say It's Not So), Sven Zetterberg (All Your Love), James Peterson (Tired Of Catchin' Hell), Big Fat Mama (Learn To Say Thank You), The Blasters (Slip Of The Tongue), ScrapOmatic (He Called My Name), P.J. 5. Friday Night Blues and Beer #162 http://feedproxy.google.com/~r... download (audio/mpeg, 37.95Mb) Description: The Beer: Say hello to the LanShunBeer all the way from China - Jason Taylor take it away - Opening this can was quite anti-climactic. After begging my sister for years to bring some pints back from China, she has finally pacified me with three choices. Popping the top on LanShunBeer provided no release, however. Due to the travel, I assume, the beer was next to flat. About three millimeters of head dissipated almost immediately. LanShunBeer provides a nose that roughly equals that of Budweiser, some sweet grasses and a bit of citrus. Due to the rice content, the flavour is almost an exact match to Bud, perhaps a tad sweeter. Somewhere on the can is marked 2.8% volume amongst the Chinese markings, and it only cost sister dearest about $0.20 CDN for a 325mL can, so in terms of bang for the buck, you can't beat it. It would make a nice cold beer for a hot Christmas morning. ![]() Jason will probably die an excruciating death in five to ten years - Give the dude a hand! The Blues: Maybe a little more subdued then my typical fare but as a dude standing on the edge of burnout this fits the mood. Relax, Allah wants you to enjoy your life - Let's get it on: The Playlist: Levee Town (Late In The Afternoon), Downchild (Scars), Jeronimo Brothers (Feel So Bad), Fabulous Thunderbirds (Roll of the Dice), Mike Morgan & The Crawl (I Ain't Worried No More), Johnny Winter (It's My Life, Baby), Taj Mahal (She Caught the Katy), Ian Moore (She's Dangerous), Katie Melua (On The Road Again), Stacks Edward Band (Trying To Be Your Man), Paula & The Pontiacs (Rough 'n Tumble Man), Dr. Ross (Got Somethin' to Tell), Anthony Gomes (Wings of a song), Paris Slim (High And Lonesome), Little Mike & the Tornadoes (What About Love), Perry Weber & The Devilles (International Man) and Craig Erickson (Overtime). Lyrical highlight: I made my self some new friends because that's what it's all about.

6. Friday Night Blues and Beer #161 http://feedproxy.google.com/~r... download (audio/mpeg, 38.90Mb) Description: The Beer: Say hello to an English Ale from the St. Peter's Brewery somewhere in England. She pours a bubbly orange with a slight haze with bits of dark particulate floaters. The head is a vigorous soup that last for days. Smells of fruity hops and earthy malts with touches of apricot. Going down she is fine - dominant with the hops but you get a unique smoke with a long malty aftertaste. Earth.. Contains 4.5% alcohol. Two thumbs up but as always get a second opinion. ![]()
The Blues: Just a touch longer then usual tonight but sometimes I get carried away. We got us some damn good head nodding goodiness back stage at the broom bar. 7. Friday Night Blues and Beer #160 http://feedproxy.google.com/~r... download (audio/mpeg, 36.03Mb) Description: Hello 3 years! The Beer: Say hello a fruit lambic from the Brouwerij Boon in Belgium. You pop that cork and streams of raspberry fills the air. She pours a deep brownish red with a mild white head that evanesces quite quickly. Along with the strong raspberry aroma one gets a little bit of sour mustiness. Going down she is cold, she is clean and the raspberry follows along right with it with a tart wash mixed with puckering citrus. She finishes dry, this can be definitely addictive. Contains 5% alcohol. Two thumbs up but as always get a second opinion. ![]()

8. Friday Night Blues and Beer #159 http://feedproxy.google.com/~r... download (audio/mpeg, 32.78Mb) Description: The Beer: After one hundred and fifty-nine consecutive beers I am starting to lose track. This one looks awful familiar but I'll go with it anyways - Say hello to an organic hefe-weizen from the Pinkus-Muller brewery in northern Germany. She pours a murky pale yellow with an off-white head that quickly fizzes out to a thin but soapy lace. Smells sweet and lemony with hints of bread and biscuits. She is crisp and clean on the tongue making for a wonderful warm weather beer. Thin malts with cloves and pears with a slight sense of citrus around the back. Awesome! Contains 5.10% alcohol, two thumbs up but as always get a second opinion. ![]() The Blues: Great blues for a great long weekend - everybody play safe! Let's get it on: The Playlist: Too Slim and the Taildraggers (These Boots Are Made for Walking), Celso Salim (Dangerous Games), Erskine Oglesby (Two Shots Of Jack), Studebaker John and the Hawks (For Lovin' You), Don Latarski (Don't It Make Me Blue), Peaches Staten (Hole in The Wall), The Gryffyn Band (Trouble Ain't Hard To Find), Steve Marriner (Zulu Ripper), David Pinsky and His Rhythm Kings (Don't Let the Good Time Stop), Dave Peabody & Brendan Power (Broke Down Engine), Denny Freeman (Cat fight), Jeff Healey Band (It Could All Get Blown Away), Blues Company (She's Tough), Jan James (Chain Of Fools), Deb Callahan (Leave The Blues Behind), Chris Pati (Talking in My Ear) and Chris Juergensen (Blood On The Street). 9. Friday Night Blues and Beer #158 http://feedproxy.google.com/~r... download (audio/mpeg, 33.35Mb) Description: The Beer: Say hello to a wonderful looking pale ale from the Brouwerji Palm brewery (or something like that) in Belgium. She pours a coppery orange with a small white head that takes it's time smoothing out into a glass hugging lace. It is chock full of yeasty floaters that is reminiscent of some dirty hippy lava lamp when held against up against a setting sun. Smells of sweet toffee and roasted malts but going down the I love you hatch she is honey brown all the way with touches of pepper but very smooth... A slight bitterness in the after but good heavens, that don't last long. Contains 5.4% alcohol. Two thumbs up but as always get a second opinion. ![]() The Blues: I spent a whole 15 minutes slapping this show together but it all be good especially after a couple of beers but then again I be thinking they all are - Let's get it on: The Playlist: The Blasters (Your Kind Of Love), Carey Bell & East Blues Experience (Lay Down Dirty Shame), The Central Ave Rhythm 'N' Blues Band (Tired Of Crying), Gino Matteo (Chasing the Dragon), Danny Gatton (So Good), Otis Grand (Between Heaven & Hell), Watermelon Slim & the Workers (Possum Hand), Beth Hart Band (Am I The One), Celinda Pink (You Ain't Leavin' Me Without You), Left Hand Freddy & the Aces (I Heard A Man Singing), Shakura S'Aida (He Doesn't Care About My Broken Heart), Jimi Ruccolo (Hell to pay), Snooks Eaglin & Boogie Bill Webb (Drop The Bomb), Johnny 'V' Vernazza (Howlin' With The Wolf), Little Bill & The Bluenotes (Next Time You See Me), Buddaheads (Howlin' At The Moon) and Walter Trout (Come Home). 10. Friday Night Blues and Beer #157 http://feedproxy.google.com/~r... download (audio/mpeg, 36.30Mb) Description: The Beer: Say hello to the Black Albert Royal Stout from the De Struise Brouwers somewhere in Belgium. She pours a solid viscous and sultry black with a massive tan head that just doesn't want to go away. Smells of bitter chocolate with cocoa and molasses bringing up the backend. Going down the bitterness is subtle but it lingers on and mixes well with the belly warming alcohol. Thick and almost chewy with mild carbonation and then this rum-steeped citrus taste steps up to the plate to tickle your tongue. There is so much going on here you find yourself re-reviewing between drinks. A super complex and inky exiler baby! Contains 13% alcohol. Two thumbs up but as always get a second opinion.
