1. Early TV Matinee 39 Treasure Hunters http://traffic.libsyn.com/mati... download (video/mp4, 110.98Mb) Description: Treasure Hunters is a reality television series on NBC (US) and Global Television (Canada) in which ten teams of three solve puzzles and complete challenges in hopes of solving the ultimate puzzle and winning the grand prize. Teams travel across the United States and Europe in search of seven "artifacts" which when assembled will "lead to the key. Find the key, and find the treasure." The challenges and puzzles are spliced with American history, and the ultimate goal is to find a hidden treasure, leading the show to be compared on various occasions to the film National Treasure. The value of the treasure in the series was revealed on the season finale to be $3,000,000. |

2. Early TV Matinee 40 The Lucy Show http://traffic.libsyn.com/mati... download (video/mp4, 106.28Mb) Description: The Lucy Show is a television series that aired on CBS from 1962 until 1968. It was Lucille Ball's follow-up to I Love Lucy. A significant change in cast and premise for the 1965-66 season divides the program into two distinct eras; aside from Ball, only Gale Gordon, who joined the program for its second season, remained. For the first three seasons, Vivian Vance was the costar. The earliest scripts were entitled The Lucille Ball Show, but all episodes aired with the title The Lucy Show. |

3. Early TV Matinee 38 Life with Elizabeth http://traffic.libsyn.com/mati... download (video/mp4, 107.85Mb) Description: Life with Elizabeth was a sitcom which aired from 1953 to 1955. The show starred Betty White and Del Moore; Jack Narz was the on-camera announcer and narrator. The low-budget comedy was produced by a local Los Angeles TV station where White and Moore were on the staff. It ran in first-run syndication. Life with Elizabeth compares favorably with other 1950s sitcoms such as I Love Lucy and My Little Margie. The once popular show was largely forgotten until VHS and later DVD releases became available after it entered the public domain. Since then, it has gained a small cult following and is currently shown on America One. The most unusual feature of Life with Elizabeth is that it was divided into three 8 to 10 minute comic shorts — referred to as "incidents". Sometimes an entire incident might just consist of the two main characters talking to each other. Also unusual was the minimal theme music, which was played by a solo harpist who was partially visible on the opening title screen. |

7. TV Early Matinee 34 One Step Beyond 1959 http://traffic.libsyn.com/mati... download (video/mp4, 470.66Mb) Description: One Step Beyond was mainly filmed at M-G-M Studios, Hollywood, and partly at M-G-M British Studios, Borehamwood, Herts. It premiered nine months before The Twilight Zone, and was also known as Alcoa Presents: One Step Beyond. All episodes are directed by Newland himself, a dab hand whose trademark is subtle, balletic camera work. This series fed the nation's growing interest in paranormal suspense in a different way. Rather than creating fictional stories with supernatural twists and turns, this program sought out 'real' stories of the supernatural, including ghosts, disappearances, monsters, etc., and re-creating them for each episode. No solutions to these mysteries were ever found, and viewers could only scratch their heads and wonder, "what if it's real?" |

32. Dragnet - Episode # 18 "The Big Seventeen" With Commercials http://matineeearlytv.libsyn.c... download (video/quicktime, 31.52Mb) Description: Episode # 18 The Big Seventeen w/commercials (11/06/52) Sergeant Friday investigates the destruction of a movie theater by a gang a teenagers! The cops find a small box containing marijuana and put two-and-two together, the reefer is making the kids go wild! Turns out that teenage Johnny is pushing weed, yellow jackets, goof balls and "H." His friend tells the police but it's too late...Johnny takes a hot shot and ODs! Our Review This episode is one of the best known of the Dragnet series. It was especially heart wrenching on radio. This is one of my favorites. It was one of the shows that followed after Barton Yarborough's untimely death and Joe Friday had to get another partner! There were some comments by others about the age of the boy. The show was in 1952. If he was born in 1935, that would make him 16 or 17 in 1952. I think the kid is great. |
