Podcast title Katmai National Park and Preserve Podcast
Website URL http://www.nps.gov/katm/photos...
Description Katmai was declared a National Monument in 1918 to preserve the awesome effects of the largest eruption of the 20th century and one of the largest in recorded history. In 1912, Novarupta Volcano inundated a nearby river valley with forty square miles of molten debris and ash, in some places up to 700 feet deep--the famed Valley of Ten Thousand Smokes was created. A National Park and Preserve since 1980, today Katmai is still famous for volcanoes, but also for brown bears, pristine waterways with abundant fish, remote wilderness, rugged coastline, and rich cultural heritage. Join the National Park Service and Friends as we explore Katmai in a series of audio and video programs from and about this special place.
