1. World's hottest chilli - from Grantham
http://da-crazyworld.blogspot.... download (, 0.00Mb)

Description:
A chilli grown in Lincolnshire has won the title of the hottest grown anywhere in the world.

A novice who eats it can require hospital treatment for mouth blisters and burns, reports The Sun.

The new variety is named Infinity for its 'never-ending' burn, which cannot be quelled by even the best antidote, milk.

It put the notorious Bhut Jolokia, which is so hot it's used in mob-control grenades in India, into second place.

Grower Woody Woods, 37, of Fire Foods in Grantham, said: "It is like eating red-hot coal. To grow such a burning hot chilli in our climate is unbelievable."

He and pal Matt Simpson, 38, bred the Infinity in a greenhouse by crossing existing varieties. They hope to market the seeds this year.

Tests by Warwick University rate Infinity at 1,067,286 on the Scoville Scale which is used to measure the heat of peppers.

The former record-holder, the Indian Bhut Jolokia, is 1,041,427. A jalapeno measures just 2,500 to 5,000. Weapons-grade pepper spray is 2,000,000.

2. Woman adopts 1,500 stray dogs
http://da-crazyworld.blogspot.... download (, 0.00Mb)

Description:
A Chinese woman has given up her job, her home and her car to adopt more than 1,500 stray dogs.

Ha Wenjin gave up her business career and sold her house, car and jewellery to set up her unofficial dog rescue centre in Tangquan County, Nanjing.

"At first I did this in my spare time, but as I gathered more and more abandoned pets, I had to work full time for them," she said.

She has taken on 10 workers to help her look after the dogs - and another two to help care for 200 adopted cats at a second centre she has set up nearby.

But her project was put at risk when local government officials, who don't recognise her work, reclaimed the land for redevelopment.

"I had to find a new place which was deserted and not close to any human habitat, as 1,500 dogs are not quiet," she said.

"And the place had to be very cheap to rent, as most of our income comes from donations."

Finances are so tight that she partly relies on volunteer days when people bring hundreds of 'pork buns' to feed the dogs.

Ha eventually found a site, in Houyu village, Pukou County, but desperately needs funds to get the new animal rescue centre up and running.

And she is hoping more volunteers will turn out help her move the dogs on four buses on 4 December - and to clean the vehicles afterwards.

3. Dog joins troops on parachute jump in Norway
http://da-crazyworld.blogspot.... download (, 0.00Mb)

Description:
A four-legged recruit to the special forces joined troops on a parachute jump into one of Europe's biggest military training exercises in Narvik, Norway.

The explosives sniffing pooch - a member of Austria's version of the SAS - took part in Operation Cold Response in Norway along with British special forces and Royal Marines assault teams.

Securely strapped to his handler and with a muzzle to stop him damaging his mouth on landing he plunged 10,000ft from a transporter plane.

"It's something he does a lot and he's very comfortable with. He has a much cooler head then most recruits," said one operation trooper.

Far from panicking at the experience of hurling themselves out of a plane at 10,000ft, the Austrians' Belgian Shepherd dogs appear to be perfectly calm both before and during the jump.

One handler explained: "They don't perceive height difference the same way humans do, so that doesn't worry them. They're more likely to be bothered by the roar of the engines, but once we're on the way down, that doesn't matter and they just enjoy the view."

He was also eager to point out that the dogs, like their human colleagues, are regarded as valued team members and aren't put into situations that could prove unnecessarily dangerous.

4. Mammoth Could Be Brought Back To Life In 4 Years
http://da-crazyworld.blogspot.... download (, 0.00Mb)

Description:
Researchers will attempt resurrecting the mammoth, a species believed extinct for over 5,000 years, after finally obtaining tissue last summer from a carcass preserved in a Russian mammoth research laboratory.

The team will be led by Professor Akira Iritani, professor emeritus at Kyoto University, notes Physorg.com.
Though the study began in 1997, the researchers were unable to determine how to safely extract DNA until a 2008 experiment by Dr. Teruhiko Wakayama, during which he cloned a mouse that had been in deep freeze for 16 years.

They plan on taking nuclei from the mammoth cells and inserting them into an elephant's egg cells from which the nuclei have been removed. This will create an embryo that contains the mammoth's genes. The embryo will then be inserted into the elephant's womb, and the animal will, hopefully, give birth to a mammoth. According to The Daily Tech, Iritani said:
"The success rate in the cloning of cattle was poor until recently, but now stands at about 30 percent. I think we have a reasonable chance of success and a healthy mammoth could be born in four or five years."
According to PCmag.com, the team will need a working sample of tissue of at least three square centimeters. The team has had trouble in the past because they had only been able to obtain tissue samples from mammoths found in Siberia, which were rendered unusable because of the frost.

The effort has now become a joint one, bringing together the United States (two African elephant researchers), Russia (the head of the Russian mammoth research lab), and Japan (Professors Minoru Miyashita and Akira Iritani).

If everything goes as planned, a mammoth will be born in 4 to 6 years. It will take so long because it will most likely be at least two years before they can impregnate an elephant, and then there will be a 600 day gestation period.

Iritani realizes the potential ramifications of this procedure. He notes, "If a cloned embryo can be created, we need to discuss, before transplanting it into the womb, how to breed it and whether to display it to the public. After the mammoth is born, we'll examine its ecology and genes to study why the species became extinct and other factors."

Mammoths were between 10 to 12 feet tall and weighed from 6 to 8 tons. They are estimated to have gone extinct more than 5,000 years ago, probably due to a combination of the change in climate, hunting, and disease, and remain a symbol of the last ice age.

11. Miss Universe Canada disqualifies transsexual contestant Jenna Talackova for being born a boy
http://da-crazyworld.blogspot.... download (, 0.00Mb)

Description:
A BEAUTY pageant has booted a 23-year-old contestant out the competition after discovering the buxom blonde was born a boy.

Miss Universe Canada - which is owned by Donald Trump - threw out Jenna Talackova when they found out she had undergone surgery to become a woman.

The transgendered contestant had already successfully reached the finals in the Miss Vancouver pageant before she was banned from continuing in the competition.

Although the pageant organizers described Talackova as a "real girl" they disqualified her arguing that the rules state that each contestant must be a "naturally born female."

Talackova began hormone therapy at 14 and underwent sexual reassignment surgery at 19.

She was listed on the official Miss Universe Canada website as a contestant until it was discovered that she was transgender. The organisation removed her profile.

"I'm disqualified, however I'm not giving up," tweeted Talackova, who later locked her Twitter account.

"I'm not going to just let them disqualify me over discrimination."

She added that she had been "disqualified for being born.".

Denis Davila, national director of Miss Universe Canada, said Talackova claimed on her registration form she was born a female.

Davila became suspicious and confronted Talackova about her sex change and the contestant admitted she was born a male.

"She feels like a real girl and she is a real girl. She didn’t expect people to question it," Davila website thestar.

"She was hoping we could put her back in the competition, but the rules are very clear and there’s no way we can go back on it."

The decision from the Miss Universe Canada pageant sparked outrage with people calling for Talackova to be reinstated into the contest.

People took to social media pages to express their disgust with one Facebook user writing on the pageant's page: "Tell us what 'requirements' did she not make? This reeks of discrimination..."

In a YouTube interview Talackova says she knew she was a female at the age of four and began hormone therapy ten years later. She has competed in transgender pageants before.

"I regard myself as a woman with a history," Talackova says winking to the camera in the video.

A statement from Miss Universe Canada read: "Jenna Talackova from Vancouver, British Columbia will not compete in the 2012 Miss Universe Canada competition because she did not meet the requirements to compete despite having stated otherwise on her entry form.

"We do, however, respect her goals, determination and wish her the best."

12. Robot jellyfish sucks up power from the water
http://da-crazyworld.blogspot.... download (, 0.00Mb)

Description:
Robojelly - a robot jellyfish that feeds on water - could aid in underwater search and rescue operations, say its creators.

Researchers at Virginia Tech and the University of Texas at Dallas built Robojelly from materials known as shape-memory alloys, which return to their original shape when bent. Eight moving segments wrapped in carbon nanotubes and coated with a platinum powder replicate the jellyfish's natural opening-and-closing method of propulsion.

The robot is powered by heat produced from chemical reactions between the oxygen and hydrogen in the water and the platinum powder, which causes the alloys to change shape. "To our knowledge, this is the first successful powering of an underwater robot using external hydrogen as a fuel source," says Yonas Tadesse, who led the research, published in the journal Smart Materials and Structures today.

More work is needed to make the hydrogen-powered robot fully functional, however. The video above shows an electricity-powered Robojelly swimming freely in a tank of water, but the hydrogen-powered version has so far only been tested while clamped to the bottom of the tank. The researchers' next step is to figure out a way to deliver hydrogen to each segment separately, allowing them to be controlled individually, so that the robot can move in different directions.

Description:
A photographer used a tasty snack as a bribe to get a shot of a squirrel seemingly snogging a toy dinosaur.

Elliott C Nathan, of Boulder Colorado, placed a seed in the dinosaur's mouth to attract the bushy-tailed Romeo.

"I spent about half an hour getting the squirrel to trust me with seeds then I started putting them onto things," he said.

"He was careful about the dinosaur at first, but finally his hunger got the best of him and he went in for the kiss."

14. Pilot shocked to see shark fly past
http://da-crazyworld.blogspot.... download (, 0.00Mb)

Description:
A pilot in New Zealand couldn't believe his eyes when he saw a shark flying past him at 7,000ft.

He'd been preparing to land at Christchurch International Airport when he spotted the 5ft shark staring back at him.

The shark in question was actually an inflatable remote-controlled toy which had flown off.

The 'Air Swimmer' toys have been a popular present this Christmas in New Zealand and police have been bombarded with reports of escaped inflatable sharks.

Experts say that other than giving the pilot a shock, the helium-filled shark was unlikely to pose any threat to the flight.

15. Not so bleak house...
http://da-crazyworld.blogspot.... download (, 0.00Mb)

Description:
A couple have embraced austerity by completely refurbishing their home with reclaimed goods.

Kresse Wesling and James Henrit bought their two bedroom flat last year when it was little more than a shell.

Now, after trawling charity shops and tips and searching on websites Gumtree, Freecycle and eBay the pair have created an incredible home from items destined for landfill.

What would have cost around £35,000 using new materials has been achieved for a fraction of the cost - albeit with a lot of hard work.

Their kitchen is created from reclaimed wood and granite and the tiles in their hallway are made from old firemen's hoses.

A disused work bench has been turned into a dining table and other furniture including the sink has been found at dumps and transformed into spectacular pieces.

Kresse, 34, said: "Our bed and closet were made from scaffolding poles and we found many things at the dump or in charity shops.

"We don't have two knives and forks that are the same and we use old jars for glasses.

"But we have a lovely Chesterfield sofa and Tibetan rugs in the floor and Welsh slate tiles in the bathroom.

"We have proved it can be done as long as you keep your mind open and are prepared to do the work."

16. Cheeky monkey's camera boob
http://da-crazyworld.blogspot.... download (, 0.00Mb)

Description:
A student has become a global internet star after holiday photos showing her fending off a playful monkey went viral.

Charmian Chen, 22, who is also a model, was feeding long-tailed macaques when one decided to retrieve a piece of corn that had fallen down her top.

As she struggled with the monkey, her dress was forced a little too far down - leaving Miss Chen struggling to maintain her modesty.

Now the photos have made her into an internet star making headline news in her native country and around the world.

The pictures - taken while she visited the Sacred Monkey Forest Ubud, in Bali - have appeared on blog sites and forums in the US, Europe and Britain.

She said: "I was on holiday and at first the pictures were just funny, but when I got back to Taiwan I had all these people trying to add me as friends on Facebook.

"I thought 'that's bit strange', and then one of them said they'd seen the pictures and I was really surprised. The next thing I knew I had TV stations ringing me.

"I was on vacation then in Bali so I didn't mind it, but back in Taiwan I was still studying so I didn't want to become famous just for my boobs."

17. Dog shoots hunter in buttocks
http://da-crazyworld.blogspot.... download (, 0.00Mb)

Description:
A US hunter was rushed to hospital after being shot in the buttocks by his dog.

The 46-year-old man was hit after his "excited" pet stepped on a shotgun in his boat, reports the Daily Telegraph.

He escaped serious injury, receiving only minor wounds to his buttocks and probably a bigger one to his pride.

Police said the man had been duck hunting with a friend on the Great Salt Lake, Utah, when the bizarre accident happened.

The hunter, from Brigham City, was shot as he climbed out of the boat to move decoys in an area of shallow marsh.

Deputy chief sheriff Kevin Potter said: "The dog got excited, was jumping around inside the boat and then it jumped on the gun.

"It went off, shooting the decoy setter in the buttocks. I don't know if the safety device was on. It's not impossible the dog could have taken it off safety."

Mr Potter said the man was hit from about 10 feet away with 27 pellets of birdshot during the incident at the Bear River Migratory Bird Refuge.

He wasn't seriously injured, in part because he was wearing waders or thick, waterproof trousers.

The men called 911 and walked to a nearby main road to wait for emergency crews. The wounded hunter was then transported to a local hospital.

18. Dog walks backwards on hind legs
http://da-crazyworld.blogspot.... download (, 0.00Mb)

Description:
A man in China says his clever pet dog walks backwards on his hind legs for more than a mile a day.

Hu Xianwei, of Handan, Hebei Province, says four-year-old Pekinese Zhu Zhu is brilliant at picking up new tricks.

"When I first got him he would let me know when he was hungry by licking my hand and rolling back and forth in front of me," he said.

"I decided to start teaching him tricks - like standing on his hind legs, squatting and waving his paws - and he's so smart he would master each one within a day or two.

"His best trick is playing war games. When I point my hand at him, shaped like a gun, he stands motionless until I say 'bang' when he drops to the floor and plays dead."

Hu takes Zhu Zhu for a walk each day and says he loves to show off, walking backwards on his back legs for two kilometres.

"He even looks backwards over his shoulder to look out for obstacles. And he bows to passers-by when they praise him," he added.

"As long as he has an audience, he is happy to show off his skills - he doesn't need any other reward. I would never sell him!"

http://da-crazyworld.blogspot.... download (, 0.00Mb)

Description:

A Norwegian man who 'flies' down mountains at speeds of more than 150mph claims he is the world's fastest human being.

Espen Fadnes wears a wingsuit which he opens out to direct his flight after leaping from the top of almost sheer cliffs.

Video footage filmed via a headcam - entitled Sense of Flying - has been posted on YouTube and notched up more than 300,000 hits.

It shows him jumping from the top of a mountain in Stryn, rocketing through a gorge as he descends 1,240 metres towards a fjord.

His wingsuit features extra fabric under his arms and between his legs to provide extra lift.

But one user commented: "That's not flying - that's falling with style!"

20. Midnight Colorado Earthquake Startles Residents, Damages Few Homes
http://da-crazyworld.blogspot.... download (, 0.00Mb)

Description:
A midnight Colorado earthquake, the strongest to hit the state since 1973, woke startled resident on Monday night.

The 5.7 magnitude earthquake struck at 11:46 P.M. Monday night about nine miles outside of Trinidad, Colo., which is located on Colorado's border with New Mexico.

The U.S. Geological Survey revealed that Trinidad, Colo.; Raton, N.M.; Colorado Springs, Colo.; and La Junta, Colo. were among the most impacted regions.

The earthquake, though severe by Colorado standards, did not cause any major destruction or injuries save for some minor structural damage at homes near the epicenter and minor damages to highways nearby.

It did, however, disrupt Colorado residents, many of whom called or checked online to find out what was happening.

"I thought maybe a car had hit my house. Then I called to my son and he said it was the third (quake) today," an elderly Trinidad resident told the Colorado Springs Gazette.

Colorado is considered a region of minor earthquake activity. The strongest recorded in modern times is a 6.6-magnitude earthquake in 1882, which was felt as far as Salt Lake City, Utah, according to the U.S. Geological Survey.

In 1901, an earthquake cracked windows and rolled boulders onto the highway. In 1944, an earthquake cracked walls and chimneys. In 1967 and 1973, Colorado experienced strong earthquakes. However, unlike Monday's natural earthquake, they were ultimately determined to have been man-made.

21. Widescreen: Airbus unveils transparent airplane
http://da-crazyworld.blogspot.... download (, 0.00Mb)

Description:
Airbus has unveiled a futuristic concept for a transparent plane that may be everyday air transport in 2050. With its see-through aircraft cabin, passengers of the future will get a window on the world as they fly through the sky. They will be able to see everything to the sides and in front of them.

The concept cabin unveiled at the Royal Observatory in Greenwich, London, would be a bionic structure that 'mimics' the efficiency of the bird bone, claimed the company.

It would provide strength where needed, and also allows for an intelligent' cabin wall membrane, which controls air temperature and can become transparent to give passengers open, panoramic views.

The company believes that mid-century passengers might be able to enjoy a game of virtual golf or take part in interactive conferences, while the cabin 'identifies and responds' to travelers' needs.

In the 'interactive zone' there are virtual pop-up projections taking passengers to whichever social scene they want to be in, from holographic gaming to virtual changing rooms for active shoppers.

The 'smart tech zone' is tailored towards the more functional-orientated passenger with what Airbus describes as 'a chameleon-style offering.'

It aims to meet individual needs ranging from a simple to a complete luxury service, but all allowing 'you to continue life as if on the ground'.

"Our research shows that passengers of 2050 will expect a seamless travel experience while also caring for the environment," the Daily Mail quoted Airbus engineering executive vice-president Charles Champion as saying.

"The concept cabin is designed with that in mind, and shows that the journey can be as much a voyage of discovery as the destination," he added.

Description:
A Chinese company has unveiled a sex robot which it claims can recognise - and even chat to - its owner.

The 5ft 5ins robot has realistic skin and muscles made of silicon gel on an advanced medical metal skeleton.

Love Sex Company manager Li Jian said the £3,000 robots were aimed at well-paid executives who were too busy to meet real women.

Customers could choose the face and figure of their robot which would be programmed to recognise its owner's face and hold conversations with him, or her, in a choice of languages.

It can also be controlled remotely to take up different positions and some body parts can even shake, added Li.

The doll attracted crowds of curious onlookers when it was unveiled at a Sex Culture Exhibition in Xi'an, capital of western China's Shaanxi Province.

23. Designer creates solar-powered bikini

Description:
A New York-based designer has invented a solar-powered bikini so wearers can charge their iPod or camera as they lie in the sun.

Andrew Schneider, 30, sewed together 40 paper-thin photo-voltaic panels together with soft conductive thread to produce his iKini which comes complete with USB ports sewn into the fabric.

Mr Schneider told the International Business Times that he came up with the idea during a brainstorming session at New York University.

"I didn't really have anything exciting so I leaned over to my friend and just jokingly said that I was going to make a bikini that could cool your beer at the beach," he said.

He then decided there was some merit in the idea and started work on developing a prototype - before realising there were an important stumbling block.

"The original bikini didn't have enough surface area to kick out the juice necessary to... cool the beer, so I downgraded to a lower power device. I plugged in my iPod and it worked," he said.

He is now selling the iKinis with prices ranging from £300 to £900 with each one custom-built and tailor-made for the wearer.

The designer now plans to go back to his original idea by developing shorts for men that can keep drinks cold.

"We're currently building and testing prototypes for the iDrink. It's just going to have to have more surface area so we're using men's board shorts," he explained.

Description:
Hundreds of young shoppers endured the rain in their underwear to queue up outside a London fashion store in the hope of winning free clothes.

Spanish label Desigual promised an outfit of their choice to the first 100 people who showed up at their Regent Street branch, reports the Evening Standard.

The first punters turned up at 11pm the previous night and by morning the queue was 300-strong, meaning many left disappointed.

Crowds flooded through the doors, grabbing their favourite pieces off the pegs before leaving the shop fully clothed.

One 22-year-old girl said: "I have been queuing from 2am this morning, it's been amazing - a little cold but definitely worth it to get some free clothes."

The stunt also took place in Stockholm, Amsterdam and Berlin under the slogan: "Arrive half naked - leave fully dressed."

Description:
Two protesters were arrested after stripping off naked to have sex in front of the alter in the middle of a service at Oslo Cathedral.

Police arrived to seize the pair - members of the F*** for Forests group - after one shocked churchgoer dialed 999.

Other furious parishioners pulled the couple apart and held them until police arrived, and also grabbed a man that had been taking pictures of the act.

A police spokesman confirmed: "We arrested three people for sexual activity in front of the altar in Oslo Cathedral."

A spokesman for the trio - who have not been identified by police - said: "We had to pay a small fine or spend 16 days in jail. We chose the former because we didn't want to spend so long without having sex."

Swedish pressure group F*** For Forests is trying to publicise global deforestation by having sex in public to draw attention to the problem.

It believes in campaigning for the cause by outraging public decency.
