As a result, we have developed a waiting list for baptisms! So this weekend we are going to devote more of our services to the baptism of those desiring to profess their faith in Christ. This is also our Tithing Demonstration weekend. While it was not intentionally planned to have extra baptisms and our Tithing Demonstration on the same weekend, it serves to remind us that our giving is not just a matter of money, but ministry. Our faithful financial stewardship provides resources God can use to change the lives and eternities of people He loves. What a joy to be part of what He is doing in our world!

Some bemoan this beginning because the summer is typically the most challenging time of the year, not only for the church, but for the spiritual growth of those who are part of it. During much of his life, he used his power and influence for good. However, part of the mess in Davids life was when he used his power inappropriately. Today, as we examine Davids encounter with Bathsheba, I can\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\'t help but wonder if David thought that no one would ever find out about his abuse of power. Modern progress has made the world a neighborhood and God has given us the task of making it a brotherhood. In these days of dividing walls of race and class we must shake the earth anew with the message of Christ. I recently met a young man who is not a Christian. I asked him who Jesus is to him. He quickly responded that Jesus was the creator of the universe. When I asked him if the word Savior meant anything to him he shook his head. In the passage that we will cover today Paul makes some bold claims about the identity of Jesus. Paul essentially claims that Christ has triumphed over everything in this world to save us and once we receive this gift our biggest struggle is to persevere in our faith. Have you heard this good news? Has it transformed your mind? As you reflect on todays message ask yourself who is Jesus to me?

Often these stories that are celebrated are communicated through images and story lines of supernatural beings. At the very core we all need to hear stories that communicate hope. Today you will hear real life stories of how God has worked through ordinary students to do the extraordinary becoming heroes to those they serve. We are excited to share our students with you. We invite you to engage in our time of worship as our students lead us and celebrate with us stories of life change. We also welcome Eddy Shigley president of Doulos Leadership Group who will share biblical truths to encourage us to live out in everyday life our true identity in Christ.

It has been my joy to share in every one of them. I remember our very first service glimpsing out the window of our rented facility wondering if anyone would show and being so grateful that some did. Now I know that 29 is not one of those big number anniversaries that get lots of attention but it does give me this opportunity to say I love you and that I am so grateful to God that He has called us to do life together as His church.

While we are not saved by our works the Bible is clear we need a faith that works. Do not merely listen to the word and so deceive yourselves. Do what it says. Those who listen to the word but do not do what it says are like people who look at their faces in a mirror and after looking at themselves go away and immediately forget what they look like. But those who look intently into the perfect law that gives freedom and continue to do this not forgetting what they have heard but doing it they will be blessed in what they do James 1:22-25 During this series we have been looking in the mirror at our spiritual jouneys where each of us is at presently and the next steps each of us must take to move forward. So today is D day the day to decide and then do what God has shown us.

I do not know about you but when I study the Bible I see God doing a whole lot of sending. God sent Abraham to another country. God sent Moses to speak with Pharaoh. God sent prophets to proclaim the truth to a wayward people. God sent Christ empowered by the Holy Spirit to live die and rise again for us. However the sending did not stop there. Christ sent us to go and seek justice proclaim good news and teach others the things that Christ taught. We are called to be witnesses to others.
