1. The most irritating things about Christians: They are hypocritical http://www.kentwoodcommunitych... download (audio/mpeg, 4.28Mb) Description: We are beginning a brand new series – The Most Irritating Things About Christians. Our Christmas Eve survey helped us identify more than enough irritations to fill the year – but since we only have four weekends, we are focusing on those most commonly mentioned. The goal for all of us, no matter where we find ourselves on the faith journey, will be to draw closer to God… and that’s a great way to start the new year! |

4. The most irritating things about Christians: The Chosen Few http://www.kentwoodcommunitych... download (audio/mpeg, 3.88Mb) Description: From Pastor Wayne Schmidt: What a week it has been! Usually I get a big jump on preparing what I share with you on the weekends. But if you were here last weekend you know the topics for this weekend were selected last weekend – and to top it off – different topics were selected in different services! So today we will explore three different irritating things about Christians – and spend a bit more time on the one selected in that particular service. When we are done, I may write it off as one of those things I will never try again! You’re part of the adventure! |

7. Kingdom Responses http://www.kentwoodcommunitych... download (audio/mpeg, 4.18Mb) Description: Jesus spoke more about the topic of our current series than any other topic – the Kingdom of God. This is the second week in our series, KINGDOM. In this parable, Jesus tells us that there will be different responses to His teaching. Open your hearts to this all-important topic. |

8. Kingdom...Dont worry, be?? http://www.kentwoodcommunitych... download (audio/mpeg, 4.28Mb) Description: I do not often include a heavy quote in this welcome, but as we continue our KINGDOM series this is one worth considering: The Kingdom is Gods rule over the totality of life. Every human need therefore can be used by the Spirit of God as a beach-head for the manifestation of His kingly power. – C. Rene Padilla, as quoted in Kingdom Come Today our journey through the Gospel of Luke takes us to a challenge of Jesus that is both practical and critical for His revolutionary reign to be shown in our attitude and actions. And it’s an area that touches most of our lives everyday. |

9. Kingdom Underestimated http://www.kentwoodcommunitych... download (audio/mpeg, 3.80Mb) Description: Have you ever underestimated the importance of something? We have been preaching about the KINGDOM of God over the past few weeks. Jesus taught powerfully on this topic but it seems that many of His critics underestimated the impact of the Kingdom. Unfortunately, many followers of Christ still underestimate the power of the Kingdom. Today we will examine two parables that Jesus shares in order to describe the impact of the Kingdom. These parables are intended to be a great source of hope and encouragement. |

13. Opportunity Knocks http://www.kentwoodcommunitych... download (audio/mpeg, 4.93Mb) Description: We are still rejoicing in the incredible Easter celebration we experienced last weekend. God prompted the hearts of people during our faith walk, with 25 people (that we know) committing their lives to Jesus Christ and experiencing His salvation. We were reminded again that His resurrection power still changes lives today! This weekend we continue the Doors series, visiting Bible passages that reference doors that make a difference as we explore how we discover and do Gods will. |

16. Left Behind http://www.kentwoodcommunitych... download (audio/mpeg, 4.66Mb) Description: Today we continue our series, Doors, and focus on a passage that contains a strong warning. There is a tendency so common in many of us to ignore warnings, even the warnings given for our own good. No doubt the warning we discuss today is ignored by many. In fact, all weekend people will leave our services without taking the warning seriously. Will you? |

17. Our Little Secret http://www.kentwoodcommunitych... download (audio/mpeg, 4.99Mb) Description: The people I admire most are those who are able to face life in all of its ugliness and brokenness, and yet have a holy optimism about the possibility of the future being different from the past. Those people are like God. As we continue our Doors series today, we will explore a passage of the Bible that helps us to see how God works to bring healing to those captivated by hidden sin and gives them a future different from their past! |

18. Prison Break http://www.kentwoodcommunitych... download (audio/mpeg, 4.49Mb) Description: Many of us, if we are honest, would admit we are only tasting at best, the abundant life Christ came to give us. We recognize things like anger, impatience, anxiety, depression or even addictions that hold us back. They are a prison of sorts that we cannot seem to escape. Today we will discover the path to freedom. The journey begins with an openness to our prisons, and ends with joy and freedom. |

19. My Door is Always Open http://www.kentwoodcommunitych... download (audio/mpeg, 3.93Mb) Description: There are seasons of wonderful fruitfulness in church ministry, and already in 2008 we have been blessed to see 139 children, youth, and adults commit their lives to Jesus Christ as their personal Savior. As a result, we have developed a waiting list for baptisms! So this weekend we are going to devote more of our services to the baptism of those desiring to profess their faith in Christ. This is also our Tithing Demonstration weekend. While it was not intentionally planned to have extra baptisms and our Tithing Demonstration on the same weekend, it serves to remind us that our giving is not just a matter of money, but ministry. Our faithful financial stewardship provides resources God can use to change the lives and eternities of people He loves. What a joy to be part of what He is doing in our world! |

20. Ruth, Choosing the Legacy You Leave http://www.kentwoodcommunitych... download (audio/mpeg, 3.70Mb) Description: Happy Mother\'s Day! As a prelude to our new series, Dave, Success in the Mess, today we are learning from the life of Davids great grandma Ruth. Ruths life serves as an amazing example of an ordinary person whose decisions shaped a character that honored God and made a difference. It is her legacy of faith that we will see in Davids life as we study him over the next several weeks. Whether you are a mother or not, you have the opportunity to pass on a legacy of faith to those who look up to you and will follow in your footsteps. |

21. Dave: The Early Years http://www.kentwoodcommunitych... download (audio/mpeg, 3.72Mb) Description: As we peer into the life of king David, right away we notice that he was an ordinary person like you and me. As we begin our series, Dave, Success in the Mess, by looking into the early years of David, we will discover the seeds of greatness that can help us allow God to prepare us for Kingdom greatness in our own lives. |

22. Soul Brothers http://www.kentwoodcommunitych... download (audio/mpeg, 4.65Mb) Description: Memorial Day weekend was created to remember those who have given their lives in service to our country. We seek to not only honor their memory, but to pray for those who are currently sacrificing to protect the freedoms we enjoy. For those of us who follow Christ, it can also serve as a reminder of those who give their lives in service to Gods kingdom. Every day brothers and sisters in Christ across the world pay the ultimate price for their faith. Their example of sacrifice should inspire all followers of Jesus to pay the price, great or small, for full devotion to Him. |

23. Marriage - Journey from Loving to Lonely http://www.kentwoodcommunitych... download (audio/mpeg, 4.66Mb) Description: Our church year officially begins June 1. Some bemoan this beginning because the summer is typically the most challenging time of the year, not only for the church, but for the spiritual growth of those who are part of it. I want to challenge us all to make this summer anything but typical. How about a sizzling summer instead of a summer slump in our spiritual lives? I know the pace and activities will be different and probably should be, but today I will suggest a couple of ways we can keep the sizzle in our spiritual lives this summer. By being here this weekend you are off to a great start! |

24. Will No One Ever Know http://www.kentwoodcommunitych... download (audio/mpeg, 4.92Mb) Description: King David was a powerful man. At his command, men would leave their families and go off to war. During much of his life, he used his power and influence for good. However, part of the mess in Davids life was when he used his power inappropriately. Today, as we examine Davids encounter with Bathsheba, I can\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\'t help but wonder if David thought that no one would ever find out about his abuse of power. Let us explore this story together and see what Gods word says about the private failings of a powerful king. |

25. Non-Prophet Living http://www.kentwoodcommunitych... download (audio/mpeg, 3.37Mb) Description: A special welcome to all the dads who are worshipping with us this weekend. We pray that you will sense the powerful presence of our Heavenly Father in this service. On this Fathers Day it is so great to have KCC men leading us in worship! One of the strengths of KCC is the number of men who have hearts fully devoted to God. When you add them to the number of women who also seek God with their whole hearts it is no wonder we are so blessed as a church family! |

26. A Case of Neglect http://www.kentwoodcommunitych... download (audio/mpeg, 5.03Mb) Description: David was not a good father. He could shepherd sheep. He could shepherd Israel. But he couldn\'t shepherd his children. Why is that? Today we seek to learn from Davids failures so that we can grow in our ability to encourage those we love. Whether you are a parent or not, there is much to learn from David. Let\'s dive in. |

27. Getting In the Last Word http://www.kentwoodcommunitych... download (audio/mpeg, 4.63Mb) Description: It has been great for our Teaching Team to hear so many comments about our series Dave Success In The Mess. The best feedback has been the news of life changing commitments as a result of being on the relational rollercoaster with king David, a man after God\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\'s own heart. Today we look at some of Davids last words. When it comes down to the end, what a person chooses to communicate says so much about what they value. Davids last words are not only a summation of his past, but anticipation of the future. Let us learn from him today. |

28. Aliens of Fellow Citizens http://www.kentwoodcommunitych... download (audio/mpeg, 4.08Mb) Description: This Fourth of July weekend provides a wonderful opportunity to celebrate the blessings of our country as well as ponder the challenges we face. I think one of our greatest challenges is captured in this statement The problem of fences has grown to be one of the most acute that the world must face. Today there are all sorts of zig zag and criss crossing fences running through the races and peoples of the world. Modern progress has made the world a neighborhood and God has given us the task of making it a brotherhood. In these days of dividing walls of race and class we must shake the earth anew with the message of Christ. Philip Gibbs in The Cross of Peace Today we will explore the original earth shaking message of Christ and then apply it to our lives today. We are glad you are with us! |

29. Qualifying http://www.kentwoodcommunitych... download (audio/mpeg, 4.56Mb) Description: Today we begin a new series entitled Struggle and Triumph. In the seat pockets throughout the Celebration Center there is a series card that we encourage you to share with a friend. In this series we will be making our way through the New Testament book of Colossians. We encourage you to read ahead each week next weekend we\\\'ll be covering Colossians 1:15-23 so you can come prepared. This series will give us an Olympic sized vision of the victory Christ gives! |

30. He Is...But, Is He? http://www.kentwoodcommunitych... download (audio/mpeg, 4.84Mb) Description: Today as we continue our series Struggle and Triumph we dig into the book of Colossians and examine what Paul had to say about the ups and downs of the Christian journey. I recently met a young man who is not a Christian. I asked him who Jesus is to him. He quickly responded that Jesus was the creator of the universe. When I asked him if the word Savior meant anything to him he shook his head. In the passage that we will cover today Paul makes some bold claims about the identity of Jesus. Paul essentially claims that Christ has triumphed over everything in this world to save us and once we receive this gift our biggest struggle is to persevere in our faith. Have you heard this good news? Has it transformed your mind? As you reflect on todays message ask yourself who is Jesus to me? |

31. On Target http://www.kentwoodcommunitych... download (audio/mpeg, 4.62Mb) Description: As we continue our series Struggle and Triumph, we will follow Pauls example of discovering and pursuing Gods purpose for our lives. We will end today with some very practical next steps for you to be on target in serving God and others. |

32. Be A Hero http://www.kentwoodcommunitych... download (audio/mpeg, 6.90Mb) Description: Welcome to Student Ministry Weekend. There has been a lot of talk about heroes in the media lately. Often these stories that are celebrated are communicated through images and story lines of supernatural beings. At the very core we all need to hear stories that communicate hope. Today you will hear real life stories of how God has worked through ordinary students to do the extraordinary becoming heroes to those they serve. We are excited to share our students with you. We invite you to engage in our time of worship as our students lead us and celebrate with us stories of life change. We also welcome Eddy Shigley president of Doulos Leadership Group who will share biblical truths to encourage us to live out in everyday life our true identity in Christ. |

33. Begin With the End in Mind http://www.kentwoodcommunitych... download (audio/mpeg, 10.40Mb) Description: This weekend marks the twenty ninth anniversary of public services for Kentwood Community Church. It has been my joy to share in every one of them. I remember our very first service glimpsing out the window of our rented facility wondering if anyone would show and being so grateful that some did. Now I know that 29 is not one of those big number anniversaries that get lots of attention but it does give me this opportunity to say I love you and that I am so grateful to God that He has called us to do life together as His church. |
34. From Death to Life http://www.kentwoodcommunitych... download (audio/mpeg, 7.61Mb) Description: My sister called me this week. During the course of our conversation she asked me what I would be preaching that sounds like an intriguing sermon series. My hope today is that you will be reminded that our movement from explorers of God to disciples of Christ is not only fueled by the things that we do but is heavily influenced by what we believe. I hope you enjoy digging into Gods word together this weekend. |

35. Matter of the Heart http://www.kentwoodcommunitych... download (audio/mpeg, 9.49Mb) Description: Volunteers are the heartbeat of KCCs ministries. God has uniquely designed every person to be engaged in ministry including you. As we continue the Moving Forward series this weekend we will explore the finding that serving others is the most catalytic church activity to propel you forward in your spiritual journey. I have seen over and over again how God has used simple acts of service not just to benefit the recipient but also to bless and grow the servant. When it comes down to it it is really a matter of the heart. Are you open to your heart being expanded as you engage in service to others. Make sure to check out KCC serving opportunities through our First Serve this weekend. God wants to work in and through you. |

36. Reflection and Action http://www.kentwoodcommunitych... download (audio/mpeg, 8.38Mb) Description: It has been exciting over the last few weeks as we are better understanding our congregation and ourselves personally through the Reveal study. Today we continue to look at ways in which our relationship with God can grow. Specifically we will look more in depth at personal spiritual practices. There are two specific catalysts that can revolutionize our relationship with God. As a result of our time together I am praying that we can all Move Forward. |
37. When Solo is Loco http://www.kentwoodcommunitych... download (audio/mpeg, 8.57Mb) Description: Do you ever reflect on your relationships in life? Do they have depth? Are they making a difference? Not all relationships are of equal value especially when it comes to spiritual growth. And it is not just a matter of what we are receiving in relationships, but what we are giving in relationships. Todays service will give you the opportunity for a relationship review and I pray will lead to the strengthening of relationships for spiritual purposes. |
38. Stalled Out http://www.kentwoodcommunitych... download (audio/mpeg, 8.23Mb) Description: Have you ever stalled out in your car. It can be frustrating. You want to get somewhere and you have plans but you are stalled. The same can happen to us spiritually. In fact it often does. What causes us to stall out spiritually and what can we do to get moving again. That is what we are going to talk about today as we continue our series Moving Forward. Join me on the journey of a lifetime. |
39. Take A Flying Leap http://www.kentwoodcommunitych... download (audio/mpeg, 9.03Mb) Description: Today we conclude our Moving Forward series or should I say it is really the beginning. While we are not saved by our works the Bible is clear we need a faith that works. Do not merely listen to the word and so deceive yourselves. Do what it says. Those who listen to the word but do not do what it says are like people who look at their faces in a mirror and after looking at themselves go away and immediately forget what they look like. But those who look intently into the perfect law that gives freedom and continue to do this not forgetting what they have heard but doing it they will be blessed in what they do James 1:22-25 During this series we have been looking in the mirror at our spiritual jouneys where each of us is at presently and the next steps each of us must take to move forward. So today is D day the day to decide and then do what God has shown us. |

40. Gotta Go http://www.kentwoodcommunitych... download (audio/mpeg, 5.60Mb) Description: Welcome to Missions Weekend. I do not know about you but when I study the Bible I see God doing a whole lot of sending. God sent Abraham to another country. God sent Moses to speak with Pharaoh. God sent prophets to proclaim the truth to a wayward people. God sent Christ empowered by the Holy Spirit to live die and rise again for us. However the sending did not stop there. Christ sent us to go and seek justice proclaim good news and teach others the things that Christ taught. We are called to be witnesses to others. This weekend I hope that the passage of scripture challenges you to go and share in places and ways and with power that you never thought was possible. Enjoy the message. |

41. Good Question http://www.kentwoodcommunitych... download (audio/mpeg, 6.54Mb) Description: I trust you have had a good Thanksgiving season and I am grateful you have decided to spend part of it with us. Let us express our thanksgiving as we worship today and build our anticipation for Christmas in this season of Advent which means anticipation. Today we begin a brand new series and I am so excited about it. I hope you will be here every week and invite someone to be here with you. |
42. What Did You Say http://www.kentwoodcommunitych... download (audio/mpeg, 6.87Mb) Description: How do we know if God is saying something to us and what He is saying. How can we determine what Gods will is for us. Today in our foray into the book of Haggai we will listen in on a conversation God is having with His people. We will learn from their communication how to obey the voice of the Lord. Do you believe God has something to say to you today. |
43. Mine Mine Mine http://www.kentwoodcommunitych... download (audio/mpeg, 8.78Mb) Description: It is such a blessing to experience as a church family this advent season leading up to Christmas. There is something about prioritizing our times of worship together that acts as an antidote to the superficiality and busyness that often pervades this season. I am also eagerly anticipating our three Christmas Eve Candlelight Services. Yes I am even anticipating the late service though it is two hours past my bedtime. Do not miss this great opportunity to invite others to a moving hour of music and participation that leads us fully into the true meaning of Christmas. |
44. Gods Bling http://www.kentwoodcommunitych... download (audio/mpeg, 7.59Mb) Description: We are so grateful that you are with us this final weekend before Christmas. I am excited about the truth from Gods Word that we will explore today the gifts that only God can give at Christmas. But this is not the final opportunity for us to meet together before Christmas day. Our Christmas Eve Candlelight Services are an indispensable part of any true Christmas celebration plan to be here and bring some friends. |
45. What If http://www.kentwoodcommunitych... download (audio/mpeg, 5.08Mb) Description: We gather for worship today for the last time this year. What a year it has been historic in some wonderful and some wild ways. It is fitting that we should devote our worship in this transitional time to answering the question what is God saying to me. Because of that our service is structured a bit differently today. It is also a joy to have our children in with us for worship on this intergenerational weekend. We are so blessed to have outstanding childrens and student ministries and yet welcome the opportunity the holidays provide to gather as a total church family. Happy New Year. |
46. The Dynamic Duo http://www.kentwoodcommunitych... download (audio/mpeg, 8.48Mb) Description: You have started the new year right by joining with others to worship God. Why not make it a habit this year. In the words of Hebrews 10 let us not give up meeting together as some are in the habit of doing but let us encourage one another. Now that is a great new years resolution to be present and to give encouragement. Today we begin our new series tough questions. We are glad you are here especially if you find you have a lot more questions than answers. I look forward to us learning together as we open both our minds and our hearts. |
