7. iPod Video versus PSP http://www.omniquiti.com/archi... download (, 0.00Mb) Description: It is interesting to compare these two. They are both excellent devices. They're both sexy and they're probably going to be the two hottest CE items on Christmas lists this year, along with XBox 360. At first blush, these are different types of devices. PSP is for games and iPod is for music. But they both really do a lot of the same stuff so comparisons are inevitable. The PSP will allow you to do absolutely everything you can do with the new iPod EXCEPT |

8. Video iPod Arrives - Baby Step or Market Shift? http://www.omniquiti.com/archi... download (, 0.00Mb) Description: Mirroring the insane rumor mill that has been churning since Apple announced last week that it would be launching new products today, Apple kinda did and kinda didn’t release a video iPod. The rumor mill couldn’t decide if Apple was or was not going to release a video iPod. And, while the new iPod does do Video, it is certainly not THE video iPod that many (including me) had speculated about. But, I think after the dust has settled and people digest this for a bit, the only conclusion will be that Apple swiped the rug right out from its earlier-to-market video competitors just as it did with the pre-iPod MP3 player market. |

9. Dish Networks Gets Smart With PocketDish http://www.omniquiti.com/archi... download (, 0.00Mb) Description: So Dish Networks beat both TiVo and DirecTV to the punch with what has always seemed to me like a painfully obvious concept. Dish Networks has launched its PocketDish series of portable media players. The coolest thing about PocketDish is that you can simply connect the portable player to your existing DishNetworks PVR via USB 2.0 and make high speed, direct transfers of recorded shows to the PocketDish. No other PVR I'm aware of allows you to do this and, to me, it is BY FAR the easiest way to make your TV shows portable whenever you want. All other systems (including Media Center PCs), require a PC to be involved in the transfer process. Why TiVo and DirecTV have missed this boat is beyond me. The PocketDish devices are based on the Archos series of portable media players, all of which have proved themselves very reliable. So . . . hat's off to Dish Networks. Now if they just had some decent sports programming . . . . |

10. Turn Your PC into a TiVo (- like device) http://www.omniquiti.com/archi... download (, 0.00Mb) Description: Extreme Tech has a great roundup/review of the leading software packages available for turning your PC into a Tivo-like personal video recorder. We dig the PC as PVR concept because, at least so far, the software packages discussed in the article DO NOT impose restrictions on your ability to convert the shows you have recorded into different video formats that can be played back elsewhere, such as on portable devices like PSPs, Cell Phones, PDAs, etc. All of the commercial PVRs we're aware of (including TiVo and Windows Media Center's PVR software) make it more difficult to convert your recorded videos by employing proprietary encoding and/or encryption methods. --Jake |

15. Welcome to Omniquiti http://www.omniquiti.com/archi... download (, 0.00Mb) Description: Thanks for checking us out. Omniquiti seeks to make sense of the fun part of the ever expanding digital multimedia universe. We will explore digital music (iPod, iTunes, Napster-to-Go, etc.), digital video (home movies as well as the soon to blossom digital video on demand services), digital photography, video games, mobile phones, home networking, etc., etc., all with the main focus of keeping you aware of what's available now, what's coming and, importantly, how to make the best use of what's out there. We don't intend to provide photos and reviews of every new gadget flowing out of China. There are other sites that do that well. Rather, we will try to sort through the noise and let you know which products we think you will have fun with and how to get the most out of them. We're also developing our Portable Special Programming Network - PSPN, which will make audio and video programming easily available to portable devices, including PSP and mobile phones. Omniquiti is an ongoing project but we have big plans. Thanks again for checking us out and we hope you'll come back often. |
