Description: This week the new Star Wars novel from Del Rey is being released, and to celebrate Star Wars Action News brings you not one but two interviews. We sit down with Steve Perry and Michael Reeves, co-authors of Death Star, to discuss the book and how it came to be. This book is a great entry point into the EU for fans not up on the Star Wars novels, and is also a wonderful read with links to the current continuity for those who have read every Star Wars book to date. Also this week, how can it be that Marjorie found over 30 UGHs at Toys R Us? And not just her but several others. What is going on? We take listener voice mails and tell our own stories to find out! Finally this week, Arnie and Scott both reexamine their collecting habits. Collecting costs a lot of money, and a lot of space. Listen as they decide how they will be collecting going forward, and they give their advice to the companies producing Star Wars merchandise for what we'd like to see in 2008. All this, plus a Hasbro Q&A to boot, in this week's Star Wars Action News.

download (audio/mpeg, 27.75Mb)

Description: This week on Star Wars Action News, hosts Marjorie and Arnie have an experience that is familiar to many collectors--the item you dread opening. Maybe because it was a purchase that you don't know where to put, maybe it's something you don't want to face because you spent more than you should, or perhaps it's something that seemed nice in theory but isn't as nice as you'd thought. This week Marjorie holds up a mirror and makes Arnie take a long look at an item he's dreaded opening... What is this item? Listen to this week's show to find out! Also this week we have part one of a two part interview with Lucasfilm's Director of Content Management and mega-collector Steve Sansweet. Additionally, this week Marjorie got something she desperately wanted for the collection. What is it? Listen to Star Wars Action News to find out!

5. Episode CXV: Of Calendars and Colanders
download (audio/mpeg, 35.90Mb)

Description: Every year there are literally thousands of calendars vying for your attention. Do you go for that one over there with the Yorkshire Terrier puppy dog with the pouty face? You want STAR WARS Calendars and you want them now, and the folks at Trends International are there to fulfill that need with not one, not two, but FOUR Star Wars calendars. Arnie and Marjorie have bought them all and review each of them on this week's Star Wars Action News (and spoiler alert--one of the calendars has a special bonus not to be missed!) Finally this week Nathan P. Butler brings us up to speed on the happenings in the Star Wars EU from video games to comic books, and lets us all know the history of the Darktrooper, so you can be more knowledgeable about that figure you're searching so hard to find.

6. Episode CXVI: Video Games Make Great Stocking Stuffers
download (audio/mpeg, 29.69Mb)

Marjorie and Arnie have vastly differing opinions on this subject. Listen to see what solutions are determined when one caller offers a suggestion... Also this week we look at all the Star Wars offerings from the home of diodes and transistors--Radio Shack. 16. Episode CXXV: I Didn't Want a Wookiee for Christmas
download (audio/mpeg, 42.15Mb)

Description: There's no feeling quite like driving home and seeing a box on your doorstep. Sometimes it's apprehension (what will the wife think?), sometimes it's confusion (oh boy, what shipped again?), and sometimes it's unbridled excitement (IT'S HERE! IT'S HERE! IT'S HERE!). But imagine the crash from the "IT'S HERE!" high if you open a box expecting to finish off your 30th Anniversary Hasbro collection thanks to an order from HasbroToyShop.com and, instead, find a 3 year old Revenge of the Sith figure? Arnie vents about this very occurrance this week on Star Wars Action News. Also this week, we are always looking for listener feedback as to what you'd like more of on the show and what we've heard is "more vintage." This show marks our first in a new monthly segment where our own podcast enhancer Kevin (DarthGawth on the forums) reviews vintage figures as he begins the daunting task of assembling a vintage carded collection. download (audio/mpeg, 34.18Mb)

Description: One of the great joys of collecting items like Hasbro and Gentle Giant and Sideshow is that it truly seems never-ending. No sooner do you think you finish with one line then another pops up. Such is certainly the case right now with Hasbro figures; as most people are starting to put their 2007 collections to bed, reports are coming in about the first wave of 2008 figures being spotted at Wal Marts, including by our own customizing expert Darth Kozy. Kozy sat down and tore open his Wave 8 finds and recorded his thoughts on these newest of figures. Of course sometimes you do hit a dry spell with no new action figures to buy, and when that happens...well, Jakob is here to tell us what he did in that situation. All this and more on this week's Star Wars Action News.

With a Hasbro Q&A covering Force F/X sabers, Ewoks, and Kybucks (oh my!), a reflection on the yellowing of toys, and a discussion of a possible price increase in Titanium ships, this week's Star Wars Action News is a must-listen.

32. Episode CXXXIX: Fit to be TIEd
download (audio/mpeg, 40.49Mb)

Description: They're coming in too fast! The collecting community has been watching the progress of new Star Wars collectibles licensee eFX with great interest, and we were rewarded this week with the announcement of the first product from eFX--a full scale Stormtrooper helmet. Given how sought after the Master Replicas version of this helmet is, and with only 500 being released by eFX, this is sure to be a very hot seller. eFX CEO Bryan Ono sat down with us this week to talk about the Stormtrooper helmet, what's the same as the MR version, what's different, and how both domestic and international collectors can get their hands on it. Also this week, for years Star Wars collectors complained that the Hasbro and Kenner TIE Fighters had wings that were too small, too out of scale with the cockpit to be movie accurate. Then in 2005 Hasbro responded by giving us a Target exclusive "big wing" TIE Fighter. For years, Star Wars collectors complained that the Hasbro and Kenner TIE Fighters were blue, not at all the color they appeared to be on screen. In 2005 Hasbro responded by giving us a gray TIE fighter. From there things can only get worse... Hasbro started to mix and match wing size and colors. Toys R Us recently got in the third exclusive release of the "big wing" TIE Fighter, this time in "whitish gray". How different is it from the previous Toys R Us gray fighter, and from the Target blue fighter? We discussion those issues this week. Also this week we look at the latest Target exclusives in both 3.75" scale and for the Galactic Heroes. From Mustufar to Kashyyyk to Endor, there are battle packs galore, and with a new Jedi starfighter to boot! Which of these items are worth the money and which should you wait to get red tagged? We tell you on this week's Star Wars Action News.

33. Episode CXL: Attack of the Pod People
download (audio/mpeg, 48.55Mb)

Description: On this week's Star Wars Action News podcast we come to you from the Pittsburgh Comicon 2008 where the Star Wars Action News hosts held panels on Star Wars collecting. We report on the con and scour the vendors' booths for any Star Wars items available. Also this week, everyone knows that keeping a large carded figure collection can take a lot of space. A LOT of space. We look at the options of loosing some of those figures from their cards and ways to store the figures in a safe way. Finally we have a double dose of vintage as Darth Gawth continues reviewing vintage mint-on-card figures in his collection, and Darth Bounty informs us about the ancestors of the Titanium figures, Kenner's first die-cast Star Wars vehicle line. And with a Hasbro QnA that puts the Aayla Secura decal sheet issue to bed once and for all, this is a Star Wars Action News not to be missed!

None of the new toys has gotten the buzz as the new vehicles, and with Hasbro previewing the instruction sheets this past week even the buzz has buzz. The Star Wars Action News staff convenes for their first roundtable discussion of the season to discuss these upcoming vehicles, and will return next week with another roundtable to discuss the figures. We also have a call from Rusty in Orlando updating us to the Star Wars Weekends fun at Disney, and talk about how you can own an actual piece of the Captain Rex prop from the Star Tours ride. All this and more on this week's Star Wars Action News.

41. Episode CXLVIII: More Nice Things
download (audio/mpeg, 45.21Mb)

Description: This week, the Star Wars Action News hosts are seeing red. They're red hopping mad, you might even say. Why? Because the new exclusive TIE Fighter "has got some red on ya" (to quote Shaun of the Dead). Yes, someone graffitied a big red garish Rebel symbol on the latest "big wing" TIE Fighter re-release, and they jacked up the price too, $53 at Entertainment Earth. Is this too much for the 4th release of this mold? Have we now got more TIE Fighters than the compliment of a Super Star Destroyer? Find out on this week's show! We also discuss this week how the new Wal Mart exclusive Droid Factory figures and Comic Book two packs are hitting shelves, with voice mail reports from listeners. We review the new collectible 10 volume hardcover Star Wars book collection from Dark Horse, and we discuss how we think Titan magazine's business model is somewhat flawed, punishing the good customers and rewarding the disloyal. Star Wars Action News has a hands on review of this product so you can make your final decision to whip out that credit card. Plus have you ever wished to have a vintage mint-on-card collection? If you've ever looked on eBay or at your local convention for vintage carded figures every so often you are faced with the question-is that a fake? Our vintage expert Kevin takes a look at professionally recarded vintage figures to give you the lowdown on this niche, sometimes mistakenly bought, collectible. Also this week we have plenty of news, from a review of the Wizard World con, a high-end item over 50% off hidden in the back of Toys R Us, discuss all the old items hanging out on the pegs and the few street-date breaking leaks of new toys. 44. Episode CLI: The Hunt for the Great White Cards
download (audio/mpeg, 45.90Mb)

Description: This week's episode of Star Wars Action News is like Herman Melville's classic Moby Dick. Only instead of Ahab it's Arnie. And instead of being really really long it's only about an hour. And instead of a great white whale it's an even bigger treasure: white carded figures that have slipped out before release date. Marjorie and Arnie take you on a tour of stores trying to find employees who blithely disregard street dates in the name of efficiency. And we play voicemails from at least one listener who DID capture his great white toy. Where did he get it, and how did he get out without the dreaded sign of "Sale Not Allowed"? Listen to find out! Also this week, we have a hands-on review of the very high-end collectible Yoshitoku Vader, initially offered up for order at Celebration Japan. This is an item few will own, but listen to our podcast to find out what makes this such an incredible piece. Star Wars Action News recounts the news you need to know. Then this week we sit down with Barry from eFX Collectibles. Last week, the much awaited Studio Scale X-Wing pre-order launched at efxcollectibles.com, and sales were surely bolstered by the last minute announcement that pre-orders placed by December 21st will be a signature edition at no extra cost. 82. Episode CLXXV: 2008 Year In Review Roundtable
download (audio/mpeg, 66.42Mb)

Description: What was the biggest event for Star Wars in 2008? Many would say The Clone Wars movie, or TV series. Others would say The Force Unleashed, or the continuation of the Expanded Universe in Legacy of the Force soon to be continued in Fate of the Jedi. For collectors, it might be the pre-order of eFX Collectibles' X-Wing, the end of the Master Replicas line, or the BMF. Maybe it was Midnight Madness; maybe it was San Diego Comic Con. All of this is recalled and discussed with the benefit of time in our Star Wars Action News staff year in review roundtable! Listen as Kevin, Jason, Jerry, Scott, Steve, Arnie, and Marjorie talk about the highs, the lows, and perhaps most importantly the toys of Star Wars in 2008. Listen to remember the year that was, and anticipate the next year to come! And we at Star Wars Action News hope you all had a very happy holiday, and wish you the merriest of New Years!
