Description: A stream borders the edge of the marsh. Nearby, a thick stand of cattails rustles in the late afternoon breeze. Red-winged blackbirds, crows, chickadees, woodpeckers, and of course, seagulls join to create Cape Cod’s springtime chorus. While the oceans on Cape Cod get most of the visitors, the inner shores of marshland make for some of the most interesting hiking and nature watching.

Description: Harwich’s Red River Beach is famous for its dramatic sunsets, which spread across the full length of the sky over the waters of Nantucket Sound. In the summer fishermen and beach walkers gather and in the dead of winter commuters idle in their cars behind windshields.

Description: Brewster’s Stony Brook is most known for its dramatic springtime herring “run.” Ocean dwellers for most of their lives, each April the herring return to the freshwater ponds of their birth to spawn. In winter Stony Brook runs clear over the stones and ladders that lead from Cape Cod Bay to the Mill Pond, but it’s historic grist mill, built in 1751, still makes for a sound-filled and visually-scenic visit. The Stony Brook Museum is housed in the historic structure which is listed on the National Register of Historic Places. This 63 minute digital recording of the waters of Stony Brook is 100% natural, with no added music or synthesized sound. Description: To many of us the sound of crickets in September means the arrival of our favorite time of year on Cape Cod. The water is cooling yet remains entirely swimmable. The peak crowds of August are gone but the activities and cultural events continue unabated. The neighborhoods are quiet again of cars and banging screen doors, but are no less lively. With no music or artificial elements, the sound of crickets on this recording begins with a modest chorus and progresses to a full symhpony.
