adminPaganism is a general term given to religious and spiritual belief systems that have a strong bent of naturalism or polytheism.
There are several categories within paganism. Paleo-paganism refers to belief systems that have remained intact, untainted by other cultural influences. Some of the best examples of paleo-paganism is the Japanese Shintoism and Indian Hinduism. These belief systems are some of the oldest in the world, and while some may not be widely practiced today—for example, the ancient Roman religion—they are still acknowledged as a whole, intact and unique approach to interpreting reality.
Paleo-paganism is often compared against Neo-Paganism, or faith systems that have only emerged in the recent centuries. Neo-paganisms center around the need of technological society to reconnect with nature, with key examples including Wicca, Neo-Druidism, and New Age. Very often paleo-paganism borrows from other pagan religions, but reinterprets them within the modern context. Very often these faith systems emphasize the importance of respecting the natural rhythm of the universe, the need for self-awareness, and sometimes, recovering the “feminine”.
Meso-Paganism, on the other hand, has incorporated some influences from monotheistic (one god) or nontheistic belief systems but remain separate from these systems. In other words, they have retained their key belies but may have adopted concepts or rituals that are similar or at least parallel to theirs. Good examples of this include the faith of the Aborigine bushmen of Australia, or the religious practices of the Viking Age Norsemen. They have incorporated some ideas from Freemasonry, Spiritualism, and Haitian Vodou.\
