What makes people so curious about celebrities? Not just the obvious interest in their latest movies, or even who they’re dating, but the obsession for even the smallest details—as seen in the sheer number (and content) of available celebrity podcasts.These podcasts contain so much insider information  that you wonder if the A-list celebrities can so much as sneeze without reporters scrambling to be the first to tell the world that so and so has the flu.

And what’s funny is that these celebrity podcasts can be amazingly accurate about what the celebrities are wearing. Not just the clothes, or the shoes, but down to the jewelry, the watch, the scarf. (Can you really tell what designer made a scarf from ten feet away? Aren’t scarves just…scarves?)

Other celebrity podcasts focus on celebrity scandals. Messy breakups, screams and hair pulling on the set, divorces and affairs, and whether or not so and so is gay. Let’s not forget the usual rumors of drug abuse and drunken partying  that are the publicist’s nightmare—bet you didn’t think that sweet blonde with the dimpled smile could curse at a sailor after one too many martinis.

And there are celebrity podcasts that focus primarily on trivia. Who was Julia Roberts’ prom date? How many celebrities graduated with a Harvard degree? Who was the youngest actor to ever win an Oscar? Silly, yes, but strangely entertaining. At the very least, the information can act like a handy ice breaker. After all, Hollywood is always a safe topic. And you never know if it becomes a category on Jeopardy.

Of course not all celebrity podcasts are about fluff and fun. There are some that try to secure interesting interviews with the people in the film and entertainment industry, getting behind the scenes information and giving listeners an idea of the kind of dedication it takes to become a successful star. There are also podcssts that feature celebrities’ personal charity causes, encouraging listeners to get involved as well.

So we admit, celebrity podcasts are fun. What better way to escape from the stress of our seemingly humdrum lives by borrowing—even for just ten minutes—

the glamour, intrigue and adventure enjoyed by the stars? As we hear about so and so’s dress and so and so’s new supermodel girl friend, we start to feel like a showbiz insider too. We’re part of that circle, we’re part of that life. It’s fun to daydream…and it’s free. Celebrity podcasts may not be for everyone, but it’s the easiest, and cheapest way, to being a star.
